Community Night with Rogation
Save the date for our next community night, on Wednesday, May 28 at 6:00pm. After a potluck community meal, we will head outside to celebrate Rogation Day.
Rogation is an ancient church practice of seeking blessing for a community and its sustenance (the word "Rogation" comes from the Latin Rogare, meaning "to ask"). Rogation Days are the 3 days preceding Ascension Day and are intended for asking God's blessing on agriculture and industry.
Since medieval days there has been a tradition of "beating the bounds" – walking together in procession around the boundary of property, praying for God's blessing upon crops, the well-being of the land, and sharing hope in God's ability to nourish and sustain life.
We will keep this tradition alive with a procession on the land on which our congregation resides, accompanied by scripture and song.

Update from the Vestry - May 19th
St. David's Vestry held its May meeting the evening of May 19. After a delicious dinner prepared by Nan and Guy Drake, the Vestry opened with Gospel-based discipleship reflecting on John 5:1-9.
Buildings & Grounds Presentation
Randy Schwichtenberg and David Pearson, co-chairs of the Buildings and Grounds committee, gave an outstanding presentation about the committee, its members, and the MANY things it does to keep our buildings and grounds looking great and safe for all. The Vestry saw detailed calendars used by the committee to track ongoing work. We heard about how the committee recently conducted a grounds walkthrough and is preparing an analysis to determine priority projects that should guide the church for years to come. The Vestry expressed its sincere gratitude and appreciate to Randy and David to their leadership, to the committee for their dedication and hard work, and to all who help out with buildings and grounds at St. David's.
Discernment Topic
The discernment topic for the evening focused on the Vestry 2025 discipleship goal and centered on the question "How can we have more intentional focus on being disciples of Christ together?" Other questions covered during this discussion were:
- How can the Vestry model being disciples of Christ as a group and as individuals?
- What spiritual practices could we add to our life as a Vestry?
-
How do you individually ground your life in God’s story and live faithfully?
A robust discussion on the topic ensued, with people sharing spiritual practices and ideas for further promoting discipleship at St. David's.
Gratitudes & Recognitions
We engaged in our monthly practice of giving gratitudes and recognitions. This month focused on the many people who made the Variety show happen, including Karin Lindquist and Andy Scheu, David Pearson and Mary Mann, Randy and Cathy Schwichtenberg, Paul Pederson, Scott Clark, and Rose Mingo-Holtz.
Regular Business
We then turned to the regular business of the Vestry - approving last month's meeting minutes (attached), reviewing April 2025 year-to-date financials, which are looking strong, and approving members to two of our standing committees (Buildings & Grounds and Stewardship).
New Business & Events
Under new business, the Rector's and Wardens' reports were discussed.
Two upcoming events outside of St. David's were put in front of the Vestry
- Pride with ECMN and St. Mark's on June 29
- Hopkins Raspberry Festival booth on July 19.
We encourage broad participation from St. David's at both of these events!
A Vestry overnight retreat at the Episcopal House of Prayer on September 14 was discussed.
We closed with prayer. The next Vestry meeting will be Monday, June 16.

The Day of Pentecost - Migration Sunday
June 8th - One service at 9:30
O God, who embraced us with perfect love and made us your people when we were yet strangers to you: be present with all refugees, immigrants, and displaced people throughout the world; may they know the consolation of your presence, and the liberating power of your love. Then give us grace, we pray, to extend ever wider your embrace in a world of exclusion, until all your children are knit together as beloved family in the perfect love that is your very heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who was displaced among us, and who now lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
- Collect, the Rt. Rev. Craig Loya, Bishop of ECMN
On Sunday, June 8, we'll celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, that day when we remember and celebrate the power of the Holy Spirit, how it lit upon the people, how they spoke in a multitude of languages, and how the Spirit propelled the people to carry the Spirit out into the far reaches of the world.
"Migration" will be a unifying theme for our liturgy. We will align ourselves in love and solidarity with refugees, immigrants, and displaced people and will recognize that each of us has our own migration story to share. The Rev. Julie Luna, former rector at St. Nicholas/Casa Maria in Richfield https://www.saint-nicks.org/casamaria, will be our guest preacher. Julie is an artist who came to St. David's earlier this spring to work with an intergenerational group of parishioners to create Pentecost "kites" that display words of migration. We will add more words and prayers to the kites on the Day of Pentecost and the kites will be used in procession as a playful and beautiful way to depict the Holy Spirit in our midst.
We invite you to wear colors of the flame that day: red, orange, yellow...and even purple, blue, and pink!
We're also looking for readers that morning to read the Pentecost story (Acts 2:1-4) in different languages. We'll have translations available that morning, or feel free to bring your own translation. For more information, contact Minister of Parish Life Julia Moser-Hardy at office@stdavidsparish.org.
Godly Play will be offered for children during worship and we'll honor high school seniors on this day!
Finally, we'll celebrate how the Holy Spirit has called, gifted, and emboldened the leaders of St. David's in their various ministries. We'll thank our leaders within worship and at a special coffee hour following the service.
It will be a beautiful, spirit-filled day! Mark your calendars! Bring a friend! Let us give thanks for the gift of the Spirit!

If you are interested in creating art for the Sunday bulletin, especially for special Sundays and high holy days, please contact Julia at office@stdavidsparish.org. We will work to offer guidance on liturgical themes and other details. Thank you for considering this invitation!

Next ICA Sunday - June 1
The next ICA Sunday will be coming up soon on June 1st. ICA is now collecting items for its Kids’ Summer Market. This is a special section set up in the food shelf that provides extra food for families with school-aged children during the summer months when kids do not receive breakfast or lunch at school. The Kids’ Summer Market offers kid-friendly foods where parents can choose foods that will best match their family’s needs.
| | |
The above are suggestions. Think about what healthy foods your children or grandchildren like when you are considering what you might donate. Please bring your items to church this Sunday or next Sunday or drop them off at your convenience in one of the ICA baskets at the church entrances.
Thanks so much.
Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all
Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive
Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure
