Walk in Love: Giving Campaign Update

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8

Our annual Giving Campaign kicked off on Sunday, October 5th and will run through November 2 when we will celebrate the end of the campaign and All Saints Day. The theme this year is "Walk in Love” which is based on a scripture from Micah 6:8. A big thanks to Doug Eichten and Bonnie Boyd for their inspirational witness talks and reflecting on what St David's means to them. As a parish with so many dedicated and active parishioners, the theme, Walk in Love, provides us the opportunity for each of us to reflect on how as followers of Jesus, when we align and come together in purpose and mission and walk in the same direction, we can do so many things together.

Thanks to the many people from whom we have already received pledges. While it is too soon to report to you on campaign results, we will be keeping you posted on our progress and hope to wrap up the campaign in one month. Please pray for a successful Giving Campaign and for guidance on your participation.

Listen to our witness talks, announcements and watch your inboxes and mailboxes for further information... including an inspirational message from our Senior Warden this week. Click here to read.

There are additional pledge packets available in the Narthex (entry way), Undercroft (lower level), and outside the office in the brochure stand if you need one. As always, feel free to contact the office if you need assistance.

Be an Informed Voter

From St. David’s ISAIAH Lighthouse Team

Inside the front cover of every Sunday morning bulletin is St. David’s Welcome Statement and Mission Statement: "We at St. David’s Episcopal Church are devoted to loving and serving God, one another and the world. Honoring the dignity and freedom of all to seek God at their own pace, we connect our life stories with the teachings of Jesus. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we believe our actions transform the world and ourselves."

Voting is one of our actions that transforms the world. There is an election on November 4th. Do you know which candidates will be on your ballot? Do you know each candidate’s position on issues important to you? Here are some resources to help you become an informed voter.

League of Women Voters  www.lwvmn.org

This non-partisan organization provides a wealth of information and resources for voters. Check out the following options under Empowering Voters:

  • VOTE411 Voter Guide - Here you can find out which candidates are on your ballet, information about those candidates, and their answers to specific questions.

ISAIAH MN Suburban Summit

Last Saturday 12 people from St. David’s participated in the ISAIAH MN Lighthouse Path Suburban Summit at Minnetonka United Methodist Church. This was one of several meetings held over the weekend including Black Church Leaders, Muslim Leaders, Small Town Leaders, Greater Mankato Leaders, and St. Paul and East Metro Leaders—all working toward the ISAIAH MN Lighthouse Path movement.

At the St. David’s breakout session we decided to take several actions:

  • Become “Informed Voters” for the November 4 election.
  • Continue to build our Yes Agenda for legislative action.
  • Spread the Lighthouse Path movement within the Episcopal Church.
  •  Attend the statewide convention in December.

Mark your calendars for:

  • October 26 (12 to 3 PM) or October 28 (6 to 8:30 PM) to build our Yes Agenda. Final date and location TBD.
  • December 13, 12 to 6 PM at Minneapolis Convention Center for Statewide Convention.

Newcomer Ministry Seeking Additional Team Members

The Newcomer Ministry is reaching out to parishioners to join our team as "Shepherds" in welcoming newcomers into our fold. We envision the "Shepherd" role to be a St. David's parishioner paired with a Newcomer, serving as a resource or support for a period of time as the Newcomer becomes more integrated into community life at St David’s.

With this in mind, we are preparing to welcome St George’s members transitioning to St David’s and others who are joining us.

If you would like to learn more or would like to join the team, contact Ann Robinson, Jane Sandsmark, or email the office at office@stdavidsparish.org.

Bible Study Survey Results - Thank you & Stay Tuned!

Many thanks to all who provided input for the Bible Study survey, which, among other things, revealed eager congregants willing to do homework!

We are hoping to offer two short studies (3 sessions or so): one in December and another between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday 2026. Stay tuned!

Opportunity to Join Handbell Choir!

Our Handbell Choir is still looking for one more member! Rehearsals occur weekly on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:00 and we normally play for the service on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Must be able to read music.

Please reach out to Keith Gause at gauses5@aol.com or his cell 612 800 3314.

An Exploration of Christian Nationalism

St. John's Episcopal Church, Minneapolis

What is Christian nationalism, and how is it different from Christianity? Is it the same as patriotism? How are Christians in the United States supposed to think about other countries?

Christian nationalism is an ideology that contends that America has been and should always be a “Christian nation.” It has become prominent in news coverage and among elected officials in the United States recently. Join us, and the Rev. Dan Stark, at St. John’s in the parish hall for four evenings this fall to explore this challenging but fascinating topic. Ultimately, we will explore what following Jesus’ Way of Love asks of us in relationship to this movement: how we, as Christians, should embody Jesus’ teachings as we engage the public sphere.

We especially pray for communities of faith traumatized by assaults during worship: the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, UK, on Yom Kippur; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan, Annunciation Church and School in South Minneapolis. For those killed and wounded by senseless acts of violence.

We pray for our country, for immigrants and refugees, and for the safety of the most vulnerable among us.
