Join Us as we Walk in Love Together

Our annual Giving Campaign, Walk in Love, will kick off this Sunday, October 5 and culminate with a celebration on All Saints Sunday, November 2.  We will walk with love and intention during the month of the campaign, remembering that our community’s greatest gift is how, as followers of Jesus, we align and come together in purpose and mission. When we walk in the same direction, we can do so many things. This is our opportunity to show our love and support for carrying out our mission and ministries, providing for our superb staff, and tending to our beautiful buildings and grounds.  Listen to the announcements and watch your inboxes and mailboxes for further information in the next four weeks as we walk through this journey together.

Love from St David's Giving Campaign Team

(Note there will be no Blessing of the Animals at St. David's. Please join us at St. George's!)

This Sunday is ICA Sunday!

This Sunday October 5 is ICA Sunday at St. David’s. A sobering fact: 1150 new families have come through the ICA Food Shelf this year! ICA is supposed to be a supplemental program, but for some it has become their primary source of food. Current needs at ICA include:

  • noodles (regular & gluten-free)
  • pasta sauce
  • peanut butter
  • baking mixes(brownies, cookies, cake)
  • cereal
  • shelf stable milk
  • applesauce
  • tea
  • canned proteins (tuna, chicken)
  • teen deodorant

The above are suggestions. Anything you would like to donate is always welcome. Bring your items to church this Sunday or if you can drop them off in an ICA basket at one of the church entrances if you are there for a meeting or event.

If you prefer simply to make a financial donation, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate. You can also go online at www.icafoodshelf.org, choose Donate from the menu & follow the prompts. Thank you for supporting ICA.

Birthday Bags Needed

Are you aware that many children in our community do not have any kind of birthday celebration, related to their families’ limited finances/resources? ICA’s birthday bags program gives our neighbors the opportunity to receive birthday bags for their children. The bags are generic and are given to families with school-aged children who have birthdays that particular month. Each bag should contain a baking tin, cake mix, frosting, candles, plates and napkins.

Please consider supporting this caring program by putting together a birthday bag or two, ready to be given to a family. Many thanks to those parishioners who put together some cute birthday bags this summer.

It can be a fun activity to do with your children or grandchildren. Such an easy way to bring a bit of happiness to local families not as fortunate as ours.

You can bring your birthday bags directly to ICA at 11588 K-Tel Drive in Hopkins during their open hours or put them in the ICA baskets at the church entrances.

Save October 21 for The Great Taste

All ICA supporters are invited to join in the fun at the 12th annual Great Taste at the Oak Ridge Country Club. The event, which includes tasty local bites, a live/silent auction and celebration of community, is a vital part of ICA’s efforts to support our neighbors in need. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be obtained at: www.icafoodshelf.org/events/theGreatTaste

Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all

Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive

Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure

Next Week October 12: Introducing "The After Party"

Update on St. David's and St. George's Merger

The interim wardens and vestry clerk from St. George's met with Katherine and St. David's wardens on Tuesday, September 30 to continue discussing the merger of St. George's into St. David's. We are communicating with ECMN, including both the Bishop and the Standing Committee, who have to approve the merger. We are scheduling a walkthrough of St. George's with representatives from St. David's staff, buildings and grounds, altar guild, and others.

A transition team has been formed and is scheduling its first meeting. The representatives from St. David's will be Carol Johnson, David Niles, and Jane Sandsmark.

St. George's vestry has decided that their final worship service at St. George's will be on Sunday, December 28. Our plan is to have a big welcome celebration for St. George's members when we celebrate Ephiphany on January 11.

More to come as this exciting process continues!

ISAIAH Lighthouse Path Summit

"At St. David's we believe our actions transform the world and ourselves. We strive, through our words and actions, to be a force for love and justice, collaborating with organizations that work to address needs in our community for the poor, suffering and marginalized."

The above quotation is from our website and Mission/Vision statement. We have an opportunity to further this vision by participating in the ISAIAH Lighthouse Path Summit described below. This event focuses mainly on west suburban congregations. We would like to see St. David's well represented there. Please click the link below for a map and to register for the free event. If you have any questions, contact Susan Taylor (ss2taylor@comcast.net).

Suburban Base Summit - Saturday Oct. 11 from 1:00-5:00pm
Minnetonka United Methodist Church

17611 Lake Street Ext, Minnetonka, MN 55345

Join hundreds of suburban folks from the congregations and city teams of ISAIAH and/or Lighthouse as we come together across the region and begin strategizing for 2026 and beyond. Throughout summer and fall, teams have been hosting conversations and public actions to say "NO" to the ongoing threats to civil rights and essential safety net programs. This summit is a culminating moment to establish what we say "YES" to in a proactive strategy for the months and years ahead. We will also get grounded in the role we as the suburbs play within the multiracial, multifaith, multiclass movement ISAIAH is building.

An Exploration of Christian Nationalism

St. John's Episcopal Church, Minneapolis

What is Christian nationalism, and how is it different from Christianity? Is it the same as patriotism? How are Christians in the United States supposed to think about other countries?

Christian nationalism is an ideology that contends that America has been and should always be a “Christian nation.” It has become prominent in news coverage and among elected officials in the United States recently. Join us, and the Rev. Dan Stark, at St. John’s in the parish hall for four evenings this fall to explore this challenging but fascinating topic. Ultimately, we will explore what following Jesus’ Way of Love asks of us in relationship to this movement: how we, as Christians, should embody Jesus’ teachings as we engage the public sphere.

We pray for healing of body, mind or spirit for those we love, especially Judy Albrecht (stepmother of Allison Ferro), Bobbie (mother of Nancy Mark), Jess Carter (friend of Vonnie Fiedler), Tara Chivers (cousin of Steph Pederson), Elynore, Anna and Will Culliton (relatives of Cindy Hillger), Joanne Downs (friend of Virginia Haggart and Ned Sorley), Lauren Gause (daughter of Keith Gause), Linda Halley (mother of Laura Hensley), Martha Hatcher, Sharon Herpers, Kimberle Lopac, Tom Lutz, David Maass (brother of Bill Jacobs), Mary Mann, Ann McNamara (sister of Eileen McNamara), Nicki Notermann (cousin of Steph Pederson), David Pearson, Lisa Popp (daughter of LaMar Popp), Bob Triebenbach, Mike Winter (father of Christina Haake).

We pray for those who have died.

We pray for all those killed by guns, in war, in churches and schools, on our streets, and in our homes. We pray for in the injured, for families, first responders, for all who are fearful and traumatized. May our grief and compassion give us a commitment and resolve to work for systemic change to prevent war and gun violence.

We especially pray for communities of faith traumatized by assaults during worship: the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, UK, on Yom Kippur; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan, Annunciation Church and School in South Minneapolis. For those killed and wounded by senseless acts of violence.

We pray for our country, for immigrants and refugees, and for the safety of the most vulnerable among us. We pray for the people of Israel, Gaza, Ukraine, Cameroon, the Sudan, and all impacted by famine, warfare, and climate crises. We pray for all affected by gun violence. We pray for all first responders and for hospital staff and all who help in times of tragedy.

For the world and its leaders, our nation and its people.

We pray for an end to racism and all systems of oppression.

We pray for those serving in the military, especially Aprille Mulvaney and Austin Hultman.
