We are a JOYOUS Community of faith!
For everyone - including dogs!
Hello Friends!

Well we just have to say a hearty thank you to our community - our church family, our friends, our neighbors. Thank you so much for attending our Animal Blessing Event. The joyous time together exceeded our expectations. We had 85 people bless us with their company and we blessed 1 horse, 5 pigeons, 25 dogs, 9 cats (2 in person) and 1 koala on video. What fun! We can no longer call it a Pet Blessing but definitely have to call it an animal blessing. What great fun for all of us - especially our fur family.

We were also able to collect great items for the Bulverde Area Humane Society and 5 local Veterinary Clincis. The items were deliverd this past Tuesday and we are so thankful for your generosity.

Pet and Animal Blessings occur in honor of St. Francis. He is the Patron Saint of Animals and there are plenty of stories about his love of nature, his preaching to the birds, and how he lived a life of simplicity serving others.

You have most likely heard the Prayer of St. Francis -

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

It is a beautiful reminder of God's call for us to reach out to one another in love. A reminder to move beyond ourselves and see that God is at work in the world around us. A reminder that we are God's instruments on earth and that we are called to share in spreading God's love, peace, and comfort with all people. And of course, that so many others are doing that right back!

My friends, God is at work in the world around us! I pray that God will open our eyes to the love being shared with us as we work at sharing God's love with others. I pray we can be open to the joy in the world. And that as we see all of God's good works, we will have a yearning to share God's love with abandon and zealousness. Much like St. Francis did, and really, much like our animals do. For many of us, our pets are the closest thing to unconditional love we will ever know. The Prayer of St. Francis encourages us to love without condition, to love expecting nothing in return, and to love trusting in God's providence and faith. And God's faith, my friends, is what we rely on and can always count on.

God's Peace, Blessings, and Love,

Thank you again to all who donated on Sunday. What a delight to share with local Veterinary Clinics and Bulverde Area Humane Shelter.

Bulverde Musik in the Park
On Saturday, October 16th we are helping out at the Bulverde Musik in the Park Event. We will be doing crafts for kiddos, meeting new friends and neighbors, and enjoying our time together listening to music. We begin set up at 5:15pm. Food trucks are available and the music starts at 6:30. We usually last until 8:30 although the concert lasts longer. Come and join in on a fun and casual time together!
Starting this Sunday we are making Thank You Cards for the 40 Volunteers they have at Provisions Food Pantry - right next door to us. Provisions will be busy between now and Christmas and we are going to be encouragers of their ministry! We are also collecting the following for Provisions and the Volunteer Workers - peanut butter, mints - lifesavers, peppermints, junior mints, any kind of mint, small personal size hand sanitizer jars, and cozy fuzzy socks for men and women.

Donating to St. Nicholas
We have been asked recently about giving to St. Nicholas. We are always happy (really over-joyed) to receive donations that help us fund our ministry efforts. Your donations help us live out our call to be active in our community, they help with the new building, and to fund our musicians, and programs. Thank you for your donations. You can click on the link to the left to learn more about giving on our website.
Volunteering at St. Nick's
One of the ways we show our love for God is to serve our church. We have many ministry opportunities on Sunday Mornings for people of all ages. You can be a reader, a chalice bearer, a greeter, hospitality team member, a Tech Helper, or help setup and clean up as an Altar Team Member. You can sign-up for these ministry roles here or from the button at the top of this section.

Here is a brief look at each ministry -

Hospitality Team - you help make cofee, bring refreshments, and connect with guests coming to St. NIck's. You help usher during our worship if needed and assist with cleaning up after our worship and fellowship time are finished.

Greeter and offertory Team - you help greet guests and help them with name tags, and any new event information with St. Nick's. You also help with the counting and handling of money at the end of our worship - which is usually not alot because most people give online.

Readers - you help lead worship reading the scriptures and prayers. All ages are welcome to read and this is a wonderful way to serve as a family.

Tech Team - you are our behind the scene helpers, keeping our online worship going and helping with slides and audio support during worship.

Chalice Bearers - our preference is to begin to have two chalice bearers at the 9:30am worship service. Currently, we ask that you wear a mask while serving in this capacity and your role is to offer people wine while saying "The blood of Christ, the cup of salvation."

Altar Team - you make sure we have communion bread, wine, linens and candles ready for worship. You help Rev. Beth track supplies, and set-up and clean up the altar.

You can serve individually or as a family. We embrace being a multi-generational church so children and youth are encouraged to serve too. Children who are able to read can become readers, teens who are tech savy can help with slides, and we can all pitch in to help St. Nick's become who God is calling her to be! Contact Rev. Beth with any and all questions. You can train for these roles with her after worship on Sundays.

Oh and if you are wondering why no sign-up for the 8:30am worship? We are loving the Come as You are/Show up and Serve/Dog Friendly vibe we have going on, so we are keeping it casual.

Remember - St. Nick's is a place where everyone is welcome, everyone is loved, and everyone belongs. Everyone. We are also a place where everyone is welcome to serve. Everyone!
