Pastors' Weekly Message: From Pastor Pat

Greetings Beloved in the Lord!

It is April 1. It seems cruel trickery that on a day the world revels in exacting pranks and jokes against the unsuspecting, that people of faith are entering the sacred space of the countdown to Christ’s crucifixion. In what is a divine twist, the silliness of the world confronts the sanctity of Holy Thursday without realizing the slim thread of connection existing between the two.

There are historical perspectives offering that the Resurrection is nothing more than folklore, the epitome of parables shared as the foundation of faith. The Bible speaks of the Roman disbelief that such a thing could occur, but still they added extra measures to secure the tomb.

Today we wrestle with how exactly does the death of one remove the sin of all? How is it that we have been given this gift that we can’t repay? What is the catch?

The “stories” of what happened between what we now know as Holy Thursday and Sunday are not religious trickery offered to the gullible. Rather these are the reminders that each and every day is an opportunity to put to death that which does not nourish us, and rise up to a new day, refreshed, renewed, and ready. Resurrection is not just an event in scriptural history - it is a way of living. May you embrace the gift of Christ’s resurrection and live it!

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
  his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;
  great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 NRSV
