Celebration of Ministries

St. David's will be hosting a Celebration of Ministries during coffee hour on September 15.

At this event, we will celebrate the many ministries in which we at St. David's participate, both within our own walls and within our broader community.

The event will consist of:

  • A brief spiritual reflection using our fall giving campaign theme of "Walk in Love" to reflect upon the ministries of St. David's
  • A fun slide show capturing many ministries of St. David's in the past year
  • An interactive activity to engage your fellow parishioners to discuss ministries
  • A table hosted by St. David's leadership to answer questions and be a resource to people who wish to learn more about ministry opportunities

We hope to see you there!

We're back!

Children's Time for age 3 - grade 5 continues this Sunday during the 9:30 service.

We're still collecting registration packets! All children and youth are required to have a registration packet completed.

Urgent Need for Volunteers!

This past Sunday, we had 32 children and youth in church! That is over twice as many as I expected. I usually print more resources than I need, but we ran out of registration forms and backpack tags! This is a huge sign of growth in our community, and an indication of the program year to come. Hallelujah! And Help! I am seeking volunteers to assist with children and youth programmingWe will only be able to celebrate and sustain this growth with your help.

How can you help? Great question.

  • Administrative tasks like volunteer/Safe Church management and communications
  • Preparing lesson materials (printing, folding, distributing)
  • Managing and organizing our physical spaces, classrooms, nursery, and youth room
  • Serving on the Youth Leadership Team
  • Volunteering to help with children’s time on Sunday mornings
  • Volunteering to help with youth group on Wednesday nights
  • Hosting/making meals

Please email me abrock@stdavidsparish.org with what type of ministry you would be interested in helping with, and what your availability looks like, whether it’s remote, or coming in to the office.

Thank you in advance!

Children and Youth Minister

New - Community Nights!

Kick Off: Wednesday, September 25

This program year, we are trying a new way to gather as a community for fellowship, formation, prayer, and music. On the 4th Wednesday of each month (with the exception of December) we will gather for a potluck supper, have an intergenerational activity, and end our time together with evening prayer.

On these 4th Wednesdays, other Wednesday programming - rehearsals, youth group - will take a week off, so we can all be involved. Childcare will be available, there will be opportunities for small groups, art projects, and more. Each month will look a little different.

Our first Wednesday Community Night is September 25th, and our topic will be "family". What does it mean to be family? We have a church family, we have chosen family, we have biological family - families come in diverse forms, and we see this diversity in family throughout the Bible too. Come and explore what it means to be part of God's family. Here's the plan for the evening:

6:00 Potluck supper (bring something to share)

6:30 Small group time (choice of discussion or creative activity)

7:15 Singing together

7:30 Simple Evening Prayer

There's no need to sign up; just come join us!

Gratitude Abounds

Many thanks to all who participated in any way, shape, or form for this year's Kick-off Sunday All-Parish Picnic. What a wonderful turnout it was this year, and oh my, how mother nature cooperated! Whether you helped with setting-up/taking down, cleaning up, grilling, grill schlepping, bubble building, bouncing, raffling, setting up a sound system, sharing food, or attending.......all of you are so appreciated.

What fun it was, participating in the community that is St. David's. It is going to be a very good year as we Walk in Love together!

Tech Help Needed

Are you tech-savvy or interested in learning more about technology? St. David’s is looking for passionate (or laid back, or anywhere in between) individuals to join our Technology Team! Whether you have experience with sound systems, computer skills, data/file organization talents, or if you’re eager to learn, we would love to have you.

Calling All Bridge Players

The St. David’s Bridge Group will begin the new season on Friday, September 20 at 6:30 PM in the Conference Room. If you are interesting in playing bridge, please contact Susan Taylor at ss2taylor@comcast.net or 952-944-7241.

We are a casual group that plays Party Bridge the third Friday of every month except December and Summer. People sign up only one month at a time. So, there is no long term commitment and you won’t need to find substitutes if you can’t play one month.

If there is enough interest, we can arrange bridge lessons for beginners or for those who want to learn some more bridge conventions.

Calling All Mah Jongg Players

The St. David’s Mah Jongg Group plays on the first and third Tuesday afternoon of every month. If you are interested in playing, please contact Susan Taylor at ss2taylor@comcast.net or 952-944-7241.

Mexican Train Anyone?

If you are interested in playing Mexican Train regularly, please contact Susan Taylor at ss2taylor@comcast.net or 952-944-7241. Indicate if you are interested in playing only in daytime, only evening, or either. We’ll pick a time and place based on these responses. This is a new group and it is a fairly easy game to learn, but still has some strategy. Come join the fun."

Misinformation, Disinformation, Fake News:

Why Do We Care?

As Christians, we are not called to a life of half-truths and deception. We are called to follow a God who is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). The Prayer Book also teaches that among our duties to our neighbors is “to be honest and fair in our dealings” and to “speak truth, and not mislead others by our silence.” (pg. 848) Let us therefore examine our own conduct to limit the spread of deceitful information and call upon our leaders to work towards the same.

All sorts of vegetables, herbs and fruits are welcome. Fresh produce can be dropped off at ICA’s K-Tel location (11588 K-Tel Drive, Minnetonka).

Thank you for considering yet another way to provide healthy foods to our neighbors in need. Your donation will be an amazing gift.

Community Chili Cook-off September 21

Are you a chili lover? Mark your calendar on Saturday, September 21 for the annual Community Chili Cook-off. It will be held (rain or shine) between 11am - 2pm at Faith Church (12007 Excelsior Boulevard, Minnetonka). This fun event is a friendly competition between teams from Hopkins Fire & Police Departments, Minnetonka Fire & Police Departments and Hopkins-Minnetonka Recreation. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be collected that day to support ICA.

We are excited for St. David’s to know of this opportunity to tour and celebrate Beacon’s Vista 44 in Hopkins. Our congregation donated seed money for this housing and watched it being built in our neighborhood.

Please join us for this celebration, remembering that St. David's was on board with our support of this project by donating seed money.

Beacon invites you to join us in celebrating the creation of 50 new homes

for families in Hopkins.

Vista 44 Grand Opening

Date: Thursday, September 12th

Program: 4:00 pm

Celebration: 4:30-5:30 pm

Location: Vista 44, 44 12th Ave S, Hopkins, MN 55343

We have worked together to make this dream a reality and are excited to celebrate our accomplishments with you. We will have an opening program and ribbon cutting at 4 pm on the basketball court on the north side of the building. This program will be followed by a "come all" community celebration with light food and family friendly activities starting at 4:30 pm in the building's north parking lot.

All are welcome to join residents, community members, donors and more to celebrate this wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Vista 44 has begun lease-up and is moving families into homes right now. Once full, 50 families who make less than $30,000 per year will live in high-quality, well-managed apartments. They are one, two, and three-bedroom units to accommodate various families, and Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin, will provide individualized on-site support services.

These homes are the result of all of our work together, so we hope you can join us.

Register here to attend.
