Night Sky in January (Astronomy Talk)

Join Steve Becker for this planetarium talk to learn what you can see in the night sky during the month of January, including constellations, planets, and more. This talk is perfect for beginning stargazers who want to learn more. This event will occur in person at the Los Alamos Nature Center's planetarium. 


Because seating is limited in the planetarium, advance registration is encouraged! Sign up now to reserve your seats. If space is still available, we will admit walk-up attendees at the nature center at the time of the presentation. 

 

Planetarium events are not recommended for kids under age 4.

Teen Center skate night Jan. 6th

The Los Alamos Teen Center along with Los Alamos County Recreation is hosting the annual high school teen-only skate event. Teens will be skating to a DJ and in glow/disco club lighting.

County looking for volunteers to test web navigation

Help Los Alamos County website users! We’re looking for Los Alamos County residents and commuters to volunteer for 15 minutes or less to test a new navigation structure for the County website. Your input will help us improve the website experience for all who use the County website. Please follow the link below to provide us with your name and email address and we will send you a link to the exercise when it becomes available.

2,800 Community Surveys were mailed to randomly selected households throughout Los Alamos and White Rock. Recipients are invited to take the survey to help provide a comprehensive picture of citizen perspectives on community livability.


Use the unique URL included to take the online survey. Paper surveys must be received by January 16, 2023.

Jan 3 – 20, 2023:

County to recycle Christmas trees

Wondering what to do with your Christmas tree? Place your non-artificial tree curbside on January 3–6 or 17–20 and it will be collected on your regular trash collection day. Be sure to remove all lights and ornaments prior to collection and maintain a 4-foot distance between your roll cart and the tree.


If you miss these collection dates, bring your tree to the Eco Station or Overlook Convenience Center for free, or call (505) 662-8163 for a special brush collection for a $25.00 fee.


Once collected, trees will be recycled into mulch and compost.

Eco Station/Overlook Convenience Center New Year hours of operation

In observance of the New Year holiday, the Eco Station and Overlook Convenience Center schedule will be as follows:


December 31, Open 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

January 1–Closed

January 2–Closed

Additionally, there will be no residential or commercial trash and recycling collection service provided on Monday, January 2nd. If the observed date falls on your normal collection day, place your materials out on Wednesday, January 4th

Atomic City Transit closed Monday, Jan. 02 in observance of New Year’s Day holiday

Atomic City Transit's regularly scheduled bus service and paratransit will not operate on Mon. Jan. 2, 2023, in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday.


Regular service will resume Tues. Jan. 3, 2023.


Route 3 regular route, 2, 1, & 6 Peak Services will remain suspended until further notice due to staffing shortage.


Please call our office at (505) 661-RIDE (7433) for any additional information or use the ACTracker to locate your bus route in real time.

Purchase locally grown/raised foods, direct from the farmers. Picked or made fresh, you can find fruit, vegetables, baked goods, body products, honey, butter, ungraded eggs, apple cider, jams and jellies, organic seeds, locally raised meat, herbs and vegetable starts, and plants for the indoors and outdoors.
