MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month. It is time to raise awareness of those living with mental or behavioral mental health issues and to help reduce the stigma so many experience.
The Positivity Pledge is an opportunity to support mental health, depression, and suicide prevention education in middle and high schools across the country. Join us in our efforts to ensure no teen feels alone and everyone deserves good mental health.

The Positivity Pledge calendar creates an opportunity for individuals to commit to 31 days focused on positive actions, helping others, self-care, and establishing good habits for positive mental health. Examples of daily activities include spreading the love by sending a healthy snack to those in need; making a list of traits you love about yourself; and finding time for self-reflection. This is an opportunity for all of us to focus on ourselves while also working together to make the world a better place.

On March 12th, Jessica Atwood (High School Teacher) was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. If not, that portion of surgery will happen at a later date. The need for radiation and or chemo will be determined after surgery. Please show this amazing and strong woman we support her through this difficult time.

PANORAMA STUDENT SURVEY

Dear Families,

We are planning to re-administer the social and emotional survey that students took in the fall of 2020. These surveys help us to learn more about student experiences and help us to address the students’ social and emotional needs. The students will take the survey in school and it shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.

Students in grades 3-12 will answer questions that encourage them to reflect on their own skills, beliefs, competencies, and relationships related to social emotional learning (SEL). Focusing on social emotional learning and creating a safe, supportive, and equitable learning environment is a priority for Fairview Park City Schools and Ohio Department of Education (ODE). Please see ODE’s website for more information regarding SEL.

The first Panorama survey administration for the 2020-2021 school year took place in November 2020. The second student survey will take place during late May/early June. The wording of survey questions is adjusted based on student age.

Students will again answer questions about several priority topics:

growth mindset
social awareness
emotion regulation
self-management
positive feelings
challenging feelings
supportive relationships

The survey will be managed by a third party, Panorama Education. We are asking that all of our students in grades 3-12 participate in the surveys, as their feedback provides valuable insights into their experiences and helps us improve and adapt to meet their needs. Please note that district staff will not be able to see how your child responds to individual questions. However, aggregate scores (based on how a student responds to several questions) will be available on a student level for some topics.

We welcome your questions about this process! If you would like to preview the survey, or have your child opt out of taking this survey, please contact your child’s school counselor.
