Dear brothers and sisters,

This week will be marked liturgically by the Memorial Saturday and the 15th Sunday after Pentecost when we celebrate the Conception of St. John the Baptist.

God willing, on Saturday at 9:00 AM, a Memorial Liturgy will be served, and the faithful are called to gather in the church so that we may pray together for the repose of the souls of our departed loved ones, both those related to us in body and in spirit. Memorial Saturdays remind us of our mortality and the transient nature of this earthly life, but they also direct us to Christ, our God, who has conquered death and, through His Resurrection, granted us eternal life. In this prayerful mood, as we light candles for the repose of our loved ones' souls, serve memorial services, and, if possible, visit the cemetery after the Liturgy to pour wine over the graves, we become participants in the Church of God, where there are no dead, for all are alive in the love and communion of the Living God.

The Gospel reading for this Sunday speaks about the true nature of love through the story of a lawyer who came to test the Savior, asking Him which commandment is the greatest in the Law. The Lord answered that the first and greatest commandment is: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind;" and the second, like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets (Luke 10:27; Matthew 22:40).

The second commandment, which the Lord emphasized, is like the first: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love is the essential need of every living being. From the moment of conception, through life, and even after death, man seeks to be loved, and he ought to love others. In this love, one grows to the measure of Christ's love, who came into this world to teach us that love is equal to the sacrifice we make for our neighbor.

Dear brothers and sisters, last week, we heard Christ say that many are called, but few are chosen. Therefore, let us ask ourselves honestly how much and in what way we love our God, how much and in what way we love our neighbor, and how much and in what way we practice our faith. The mercy of God is great, and the responsibility of every individual is enormous to give the correct answer and, by living a life of good works, to become sons and daughters of the God of Love. Let us show our sincere love through deeds toward our neighbors. Let us pray for the repose of the souls of our loved ones and the health and spiritual growth of all of us, especially our youth and children, so that we may gather together in our holy church in health, peace, and joy. May the Lord grant every good thing.

Драга браћо и сестре, ову недељу ће богослужбено обиљежити суботње Михољске задушнице и 15. недеља по Духовима, када прослављамо Зачеће Св. Јована Крститеља.

Ако Бог да, у суботу у 9:00 часова служиће се Заупокојена литургија, када би вјерни народ требао да се сабере у храму и да се заједно помолимо Богу за покој душа уснулих и преминулих наших сродника по духу и по тијелу. Задушнице нас подсјећају да смо сви смртни и пролазни, али и упућују да је Христос Бог наш побиједио смрт и својом Васкрсењем и нама даровао живот вјечни. У том молитвеном расположењу и ми, палећи свијеће за покој душа ближњих, служећи парастосе и ако је могуће послије Литургије отићи до гробља и прелити гробове вином, постајемо саудионици Цркве Божије, гдје нема мртвих него су сви живи у љубави и заједници Живога Бога.

Недељно јеванђеље управо говори о томе шта је и каква је права љубав, и кроз причу о неком законику који је пришао да куша Спаситеља упитао га која је заповест највећа у Закону. Господ му је одговорио да је прва и највећа заповест у Закону: Љуби Господа Бога својега свим срцем својим, и свом душом својом, и свом снагом својом, и свим умом својим; и ближњега свога као самога себе. О овим двјема заповијестима виси сав Закон и Пророци (Лк. 10, 27; Мт. 22, 40).

Друга заповест на коју је Господ указао, слична је заповести о љубави према Богу: Љуби ближњега свога, као самога себе. Љубав је насушна потреба свакога створења, човјек од свог зачећа па до смрти, а и послије смрти иште да буде вољен и требало би да сам воли и у тој љубави узраста до мјере Христове љубави, који је дошао у овај свијет да нас научи да је љубав једнака жртви коју чинимо за ближњега својега.

Драга браћо и сестре, чули смо у прошлој недељи како Христос каже да је много званих а мало изабраних, зато да се запитамо заиста колико и како љубимо Бога свога, колико и како љубимо ближње своје, како и колико исповједамо вјеру своју. Велика је милост Божија и огромна одговорност свакога понаособ да да прави одговор, и да тако живећи и творећи добра дјела будемо синови и кћери Бога Љубави, и да своју нелицемјерну љубав у дјелима покажемо према ближњима својим. Да се помолимо за покој душа свих наших сродника и да се помолимо за здравље и духовни наредак свих нас, прије свега наше омладине и наше дјеце, у здрављу, миру и радости, да се виђамо и окупљамо у нашем светом храму, свако добро од Господа.

Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “’You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.” He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool’? If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.

И упита један од њих законик кушајући Га и говорећи: Учитељу! Која је заповест највећа у закону? А Исус рече му: Љуби Господа Бога свог свим срцем својим, и свом душом својом, и свом мисли својом. Ово је прва и највећа заповест. А друга је као и ова: Љуби ближњег свог као самог себе. О овима двема заповестима виси сав закон и пророци. А кад се сабраше фарисеји, упита их Исус Говорећи: Шта мислите за Христа, чији је син? Рекоше Му: Давидов. Рече им: Како дакле Давид Њега духом назива Господом говорећи: Рече Господ Господу мом: Седи мени с десне стране, док положим непријатеље Твоје подножје ногама Твојим? Кад дакле Давид назива Њега Господом, како му је син? И нико Му не могаше одговорити речи; нити смеде ко од тог дана да Га запита више.
