The St. Bart’s Buzz

 The Reverend Mother Nina Bacas

In English slang, “the buzz” refers to “an excited, typically positive, talk about someone or something.” Friends, I assure you, there is a St. Bart’s buzz in the air. The community is talking about us! How do I know? I hear the buzz all around us. [...]

2024 Stewardship

2024 Stewardship Update

Forward in Faith—Give for a Vital Future. Thanks to everyone who has pledged to St. Bart’s Church for 2024. We are over 61% of the way to our $900,000 goal, and one-third of households have pledged. There are still many households that have not pledged, so if you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to pledge!

At the Sunday, November 12, services, parishioners Chris and Christine Villasenor will tell us why they give. Stewardship updates will be provided at all services.

Our Forward in Faith Giving Weekend is November 18-19. At each service, parishioners will be invited to participate in a celebration of faith, generosity and commitment to stewardship as a church community.

Questions? Contact Anne Hand, Campaign Co-Chair, or Bill Angus, St. Bart’s Treasurer.

Ronald McDonald Volunteers

Date Change for Ronald McDonald House Event

Nov 25

Last week we mistakenly published November 18 as the date the Youth Crew will be helping to decorate the Ronald McDonald House—the actual date of this event is after Thanksgiving, on Saturday, November 25, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. We’ll be joining with other service groups to build and decorate Christmas trees, hang wreaths, tie bows and more! Donuts will be available on arrival, and lunch will be served to all volunteers. All help is welcome, so feel free to come for just a couple hours. Email Lauren Sleeper if you would like to participate and/or need to carpool and click the link below to sign up as an official chaperone.

We need extra adults at every Youth Crew event, both on and off campus. We gather regularly on Wednesday nights, 6-8 p.m. We attend the ReGen service on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month; make lunches and do service projects on the 2nd Wednesday; and play games, do art and watch movies on the 4th and 5th Wednesdays. If you’d like to experience one of our parties, feel free to sign up for our Friendsgiving in November or our White Elephant Christmas party in December.

Volunteer for Wednesday Youth Crew

In addition to those events, we have also been participating in Sunday morning Youth Forums from 9:00 to 9:50 a.m. We need a second adult for each of these days. Your assistance and wisdom during our discussions is much appreciated. Click the button below to sign up to help.

Calling All Parishioners: Year-End Outreach Ministries at St. Bart’s

The last three months of the year are a very busy time for St. Bart’s outreach ministries, and we have many opportunities for everyone to engage in both hands-on service and the giving of gifts to our neighbors. Please join us for the ministries that call to you. Click the button below to see all the upcoming year-end events, and contact the ministry coordinators listed for more information.

24th Annual Thanksgiving Basket Donations

Return baskets on Nov 19

Help dozens of families in the Interfaith Community Services (ICS) transitional-housing program enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal home-cooked in their very own kitchen! Pick up your shopping lists and empty laundry baskets this weekend on the St. Bart’s patio. Return the filled baskets the morning of Sunday, November 19, for distribution to the families that day.

Over the last 23 years, St. Bart’s parishioners have provided baskets for just shy of 2,000 families. We are currently seeking one or two families to coordinate this ministry, as the ministry founders are “retiring” after 20+ years. Contact Christine Villasenor with questions.

If you would like to donate financially toward this ministry, click the button below, then select “One-time” at the top right of the page. From the Fund drop-down menu, select “Thanksgiving Baskets” before proceeding with payment information.

Contact Lauren Sleeper by November 15 at 9 p.m. if your child/ren would like to participate. The children will be fed dinner, do crafts, play games and watch the movie Free Birds. Parishioners are invited to send in photos and short announcements about their families that they would like to share with the congregation: graduations, marriages, birth of a child, promotions, transfers, new house, upcoming performances or games that the congregation can attend and support. We all missed years of connecting with one another in person. Here is an opportunity to build back our community and help us learn about each other and share the Good News! Please send photos and stories to news@stbartschurch.org.

Veterans Day Unveiling: “Hometown Heroes”

Nov 11

[San Diego Union-Tribune] Veterans Day will be celebrated in Poway on the Saturday, November 11, holiday with a tribute to local military heroes.

The Veterans Day ceremony starts at 11 a.m. at Poway Veterans Park, across the street from Old Poway Park on Midland Road.

The event will include an unveiling of street light banners that honor local veterans of all military branches, said Poway VFW Commander John Carson. The five new heroes being honored this year are longtime Poway residents, and some are Poway High School graduates. […]

People of Faith, Stand with Us

By the Rt. Rev. Dr. Susan Brown Snook, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego; Robert Cardinal McElroy, Roman Catholic Bishop of San Diego; and the Rev. David C. Nagler, Bishop of the Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

As religious leaders in San Diego and Imperial Counties, we have witnessed the beauty and the depth of the Jewish and Muslim communities and the faith which animates them. We profess in our own Christian faith the unity of the human family that has been created by God, equal in dignity. We are grateful for the many years of peaceful interfaith cooperation that religious leaders of all faiths have worked hard to foster here in the San Diego area. Now, however, the conflict in the Holy Land threatens that deepening understanding between people of faith here at home. Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism are utterly incompatible with what it means to be a follower of Christ or what it means to be an American. […]
