Heart in the Game
The Reverend Mother Nina Bacas
| |
Jesus had x-ray vision into the hearts of those he encountered. He knew their true feelings, even when others were entirely in the dark. I think of his encounter with the woman with the alabaster jar.[...]
2024 Stewardship Update
Forward in Faith—Give for a Vital Future. Thanks to everyone who has pledged to St. Bart’s Church for 2024. We are currently at $623,239, which is almost 70% of our dollar goal. If you have not yet pledged, please take a moment to do so.
Our Forward in Faith Giving Weekend, November 18-19, is finally here. At each
service, parishioners will be invited to participate in a giving ceremony at the altar, led by Mother Nina, and to post “Why I Give” comments on the church windows. We’ll see you there!
Questions? Contact Anne Hand, Campaign Co-Chair, or Bill Angus, St. Bart’s Treasurer.

If you recently ordered a St. Bart’s “All Are Welcome” T-shirt, please pick it up in the church office on Thursday before 4 p.m., Friday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or Saturday or Sunday before services—and be sure and wear it to our Ingathering/Giving worship services this weekend! 24th Annual Thanksgiving Basket Donations
Baskets due back this Sunday, Nov 19
Thank you to everyone who picked up shopping lists and laundry baskets to fill with Thanksgiving meal ingredients. Through your generosity, dozens of families in the Interfaith Community Services (ICS) transitional-housing program will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal home-cooked in their very own kitchen!
There are still plenty of empty baskets available in the church office to pickup, shop and fill in time for this outreach project. The church office is open until 4 p.m. today, 1 p.m. tomorrow and various staff will be on campus Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.
Please return filled baskets the morning of Sunday, November 19, for distribution to the families later that day.
We still need volunteers to shop, as well as help delivering baskets on Sunday, so if you can pitch in, contact Christine Villasenor.
If you would like to donate financially toward this ministry, click the button below, then select “One-time” at the top right of the page. From the Fund drop-down menu, select “Thanksgiving Baskets” before proceeding with payment information.

Angel Tree Program
Nov 25 & 26
Project Angel Tree will start next weekend! Pick up your wish lists on Saturday, November 25, or Sunday, November 26. By sponsoring a family, you can ensure that children whose parents are incarcerated will still receive gifts for Christmas. Your wrapped gifts are due back to church the following weekend: Saturday, December 2, or Sunday, December 3. If you have any questions regarding gift selections, don’t hesitate to email our Angel Tree Coordinator, Rosalind Duddy, or call her at (858) 485-1770.

Parents Night Out
Nov 17

The children will be fed dinner, do crafts, play games and watch the movie Free Birds (click the link below to see a preview). Contact Lauren Sleeper ASAP to see if there is still room for your child(ren) to participate.
| |
To make this event possible, we still need a couple of adults to volunteer as chaperones. Click the link below to sign up.

NOTE: To protect those with allergies, please clearly label cookies that contain nuts.

Parishioners are invited to send in photos and short announcements about their families that they would like to share with the congregation: graduations, marriages, birth of a child, promotions, transfers, new house, upcoming performances or games that the congregation can attend and support. We all missed years of connecting with one another in person. Here is an opportunity to build back our community and help us learn about each other and share the Good News! Please send photos and stories to news@stbartschurch.org.

Bishop Susan’s Convention Letter: Courageous Love
Here in the Diocese of San Diego, we are a people of Courageous Love. We have confidence that God has given us all we need to follow Jesus and share God’s good news with the world. Yes, we have suffered from a pandemic, whose effects on attendance at our churches linger. Yes, we are a diocese who experienced losses from the divisions of the mid-2000s. And yes, we are in a world where fewer Americans seek out community within churches; many prefer to retreat into online worlds they can experience from the comforts of their home. [...]

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry on 10,000+ Dead in Gaza: Stop the Killing
You may know me as the pastor who is always talking about love, and I am. But today I am mindful that the urgency of love—true, sacrificial love that respects all of humanity—is not just a good feeling, and it is not easy.
We are called to a love that demands much from us. We are called to a love that tells the truth. [...]
