We Need Your Help: Volunteer at the AC Shelter
Reopening on Saturday, June 13
After much planning and organization, we are excited to reopen the Ansche Chesed shelter to host and provide dinner for seven men each night. This project of love will require a great deal of collective effort, and we encourage every member of our community to get involved. Volunteers are needed to:

Origami Folding Party: Help Make Our Tribute for Rabbi Yael Special!

To help decorate for the Annual Tribute Dinner, the Tribute Committee has chosen butterflies as a symbol of the growth and transformation our community has experienced thanks to the vision and leadership of Rabbi Yael Hammerman. Come spend some time folding origami butterflies that will be used to decorate the dinner. Kids and adults are all welcome, whether you’re an origami expert or trying it for the first time. During the Sanctuary service, graduates of any age/stage are invited to join us for a celebratory group aliyah to the Torah. We ask participants to arrive by 10:30am. EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED
Our long-time member Aliya Cheskis-Cotel, recently suffered an extensive fire in her apartment. She is personally safe, but must vacate her home for many months. Aliya seeks any help she can get with renting temporary housing on the UWS. Do you know people whose homes are vacant, either short- or long-term? Vacant even during the week? She cannot walk stairs and would need an elevator.

Partnering Together: Caring for a Loved One with Dementia, with DOROT
Wednesdays, June 24 - September 9 (10 of the 12 weeks) from 3 - 4:30pm
This new psychoeducational group is for adults caregiving for a loved one who has mild cognitive impairment or various types of dementia, including Alzheimer's, Lewy body, vascular, frontotemporal, or mixed dementias. Each session focuses on providing foundational knowledge about disease progression, adapting to changing relationships, coping with grief and loss, engaging a broader support system, grappling with legal and financial considerations, and the role of spirituality. If you would like to join the group, please fill out the interest form and a DOROT social worker will follow up to discuss eligibility and next steps.

Final Stops: A Kavod v'Nichum Field Trip in NYC

At Kavod v’Nichum, we spend our time in conversation about what it means to care for one another at the end of life. For the first time, we’re taking those conversations into the city itself. Final Stops is a day-long trip through NYC, led by Rabbi Adina Lewittes and Sarit Wishnevski, Executive Director at Kavod v’Nichum. Together, we’ll explore Jewish death and burial practices in the places they live, from rare manuscripts at JTS to museum galleries that interpret ritual and memory, and from Jewish text study to time inside a working funeral home. With Poetry & Justice For All: Three Anniversaries in Song
Sunday, June 21 at 1pm at Merkin Hall (129 W. 67th St.)
Come hear tributes to America you likely haven’t heard before – at least not in Yiddish! – including Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land,” and “America” by Neil Diamond – with both songs in Yiddish and in four-part harmony! It’s also 150 years since the birth of the beloved Yiddish poet Avrom Reisen and it’s 125 years since the birth of the equally beloved (but radically different) Yiddish poet Itzik Manger. No need to know any Yiddish. Performed by the Yiddish Philharmonic Chorus, including AC members Sara Ruderman, Janet Scharf and Elyse Wolman along with Larry Kay (member of TeleTefila). Tickets are $50 from the Box Office or $40 from one of them!

Early voting starts on June 13, Primary Election Day on June 23
With the summer approaching, we want to take a moment to highlight something of great importance for our community and our civic life: the upcoming primary elections on June 23rd. In New York, many of the most consequential decisions are made during the primaries. If you expect to be away this summer, it is especially important to act now. Early voting begins on June 13th, or you can request an absentee ballot. Our tradition teaches us the importance of civic responsibility and the power of collective voice. Participating in elections is one meaningful way we can help shape the society in which we live and uphold the values we hold dear.
