St. David's Pilgrimage to Wales
Informational Meeting, Sunday, June 2
There's much excitement around St. David's about the announcement made at the recent State of the Vestry presentation: we will be offering a pilgrimage to Wales in the spring of 2025! For anyone interested in learning more, please join us for an informational meeting via Zoom on Sunday, June 2 at 6:30 pm, led by pilgrimage leader the Very Rev. Anthony Pompa.
Pilgrimage dates: May 4-13, 2025
Number of pilgrims: 12-17
Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/s/82329029433#success
We will share a full brochure, complete with pricing, as soon as it is available. It is important to know that this is not intended as a tourist trip, but rather a spiritual immersion into Celtic Christianity through movement, poetry, and prayer.
For more information, please contact the Rev. Katherine Lewis, klewis@stdavidsparish.org.

Greetings St. David’s!
Your faithful Vestry team met this past Monday night for our monthly meeting. Following our delicious meal around the table, (thank you Andy Harvala), we opened with prayer then dove into the busy agenda at hand. Here is a brief recap of what transpired.
- Keeping focus on our 7 Vision Statements, we reviewed vision #5 “We believe in God’s abundance and are faithful stewards of our land, buildings, and financial resources to support staff and ministries now, and for generations to come.” A more appropriate vision statement could not have been chosen that night (see #3 below)!
- Vida Edmond, Chair of the Endowment Committee, visited to share the "Amended and Restated Enabling Resolution of the Endowment Fund Policy". The vestry then needed to vote on this new document. Discussion and discernment ensued. We voted, and it was approved. After one more vote and approval at our June meeting the committee and vestry may then move forward with disbursement of funds. Exciting times ahead for the life of the church and larger community.
- The Comprehensive Campus Initiative Team meets this week to begin creating a vision for the future of our campus—how it serves our faith community and the larger community. Faithful Innovation is growing at St. David’s!
- The standing Committee for Stewardship was approved, as was the updated St. David’s Alcohol Policy (which we are responsible for sharing with our community at least once a year). Our monthly financial report and last month’s meeting minutes were also reviewed and approved.
- Our Vestry Shepherds for Communication (Julia Handley) and Fellowship/Community (Ann Robinson) gave updates on these areas of ministry.
- Mark your calendars: Wales Informational Pilgrimage ZOOM - Sunday June 2, Hopkins Pride - June 15, Minneapolis Pride Parade with ECMN - June 30, Raspberry Festival - July 20/21, and St. David’s Women’s 50 year Ordination Anniversary Celebration Forum - July 28.
Respectfully Submitted,
Diane Curley, Senior Warden

Comprehensive Campus Initiative Meeting
05/21/2024
The very first meeting of the Comprehensive Campus Initiative (CCI) was held this week. The current members are Cliff Crockford and Katherine Lewis, co-conveners, Carol Johnson, Diane Curley, Doug Eichten, Maddie Harvala, Karin Lindquist, Huldah Niles, Paul Smejkal, Kristina Stokes, and Craig Warren. The goal of this group is to consider the use of the St. David’s property and buildings as a whole including the Sanctuary/Offices as well as the building in the NE corner of the property that currently houses ICA (Intercongregation Communities Association) Food Shelf. ICA leases this building from St. David’s and the lease is up in early 2026. One of the goals of the CCI is to consider how this building will be used should ICA relocate. In contemplating the potential uses for this building and how the entire campus fits into the Vision Statements of St. David’s the following steps will be taken by the CCI:
-
Grounding - How are the land and buildings utilized to serve both the St. David’s faith community as well as the larger community? What are some of the potential constraints on planning such as time and money?
-
Learning and Inquiry - who are the constituency groups we need to survey to learn about the needs/desires of our larger community? How is the property zoned and could it be impacted by the city of Minnetonka 2040 plan? The Diocese of MN and its governing bodies also need to be consulted. The CCI plans to meet with Kelsey Schuster, Canon for Operations and Chief of Staff for ECMN (Episcopal Church of Minnesota) in a desire to understand the requirements and desires of the Diocese as well as to foster a healthy partnership as plans for the St. David’s campus take shape and ultimately manifest in a mutually beneficial and sustainable way.
-
Synthesizing - Coming up with a well thought out plan for the entire St. David’s Campus and presenting it to the Vestry and the St. David’s Congregation.
Implementation of the plan presented by the CCI will fall to a different St. David’s group, as yet to be defined. The CCI will meet again in June and again in the fall with plans to continue discussions at least through February of 2025 with a real possibility of reaching farther into the future. There are many unknowns and much to learn on this journey. The group is focused on bringing the Vision Statements of St. David’s into the larger community through thoughtful and intentional use of the St. David’s Campus. Please feel free to reach out to any group members with questions or concerns.

SAVE THE DATE
July 20 - 21
Hopkins Raspberry Festival
Mark your calendars now, so you too can take part in a most fun, meaningful, and fantastic summer weekend right here in our local community!
St David’s is now registered to take part in the 2024 Hopkins Raspberry Festival! You have the opportunity to participate in an old-fashioned Grande Day Parade complete with floats and marching bands traveling down Mainstreet in Hopkins on July 21.
If you prefer, you can also participate by assisting in the “St David’s Booth” where we will set up a table offering up rest, refreshment, and renewal at the Mainstreet Marketplace Festival on July 20.
These two opportunities offer St. David’s a chance to step out of our boat and venture into the waters to play, faithfully living into both our mission and vision statements by actively engaging with our community.
Keep your eye out for more information and ways you can get involved (coming your way soon!) All ages are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Regards,
Diane Curley, Senior Warden

Agrarian Faith Formation
ECMN Priority: Faithful Innovation
The Rev. Kerri Meyer spoke about her transformation at the Good Courage Farm. The Farm is described as “a place where friends of God and God's good Earth gather in worship, fellowship, community building and labor.” https://www.goodcourage.farm/
Last year we had a small group of vineyard stewards from St. David’s spend a few Saturdays during the growing season working in the Vineyard. As we worked among the vines, we had the opportunity to get to know each other, learn about regenerative farming, agrarian ministry, as well as to meet other ECMN Episcopalian congregation stewards. If you love to nurture the growth of food, spirit, and friendships, or just like to get your hands and boots dirty, then consider joining one of the Saturday stewardships. Orchard Stewarding is planned for the First Saturday of the month, and the Vineyard the second Saturday of the month. If you are interested, please email Bonnie Boyd at Bonnieboyd0803@gmail.com, text 952-220-6982, or sign-up in the Undercroft while you're having coffee.

ICA Update
At the recent quarterly ICA congregational meeting, Scott Searl shared this Story of Hope (below) from Kerri Fischer, ICA Employment Consultant.
At the beginning of the year, Michelle was ‘going through a rough patch.’ She had recently lost her job and was behind in paying her rent and other bills. Also, Michelle did not have a working phone, needed car repairs and gas for transportation, and lost her medical insurance. In addition, Michelle was suffering from a persistent infection and needed medication she could not afford. There was a lot going on!
Michelle and I met and started to tackle these issues. After updating her resume, we began to look for jobs near Michelle’s Hopkins apartment and completed several applications, sometimes in person and others via phone, to save on gas. I advised Michelle to apply for rental assistance ASAP and helped her get the paperwork to Felicia, our Relationship Manager. ICA was able to give Michelle the following assistance to get through this tough time:
* Paid Michelle’s rent to prevent eviction
* Assisted Michelle in landing a job at The Dollar Store
* Paid utility bill
* Provided gas cards for job search
* Provided Target cards to buy essentials
* Provided groceries at the food shelf
Michelle’s son helped her obtain a new phone and reinstate her insurance. I’m happy to report Michelle is doing much better due to ICA’s awesome services, coordinated by Felicia and myself. We make a good team! Importantly, at ICA we show our community members that we care about them and will do all that we can to help them thrive!
We all think of ICA as the local resource to provide food to our neighbors in need. However, as Kerrie’s story about working with Michelle shows, ICA is a broader resource for our neighbors who often have complex needs and issues. Case managers there take the time necessary to get to know each individual, so they can better help them achieve lasting stability. In the end, providing resources and hope means our whole community is stronger.
