The Church Directory

I know many of you have been waiting for an updated church directory. In years past, it was common for churches to distribute print copies. In fact, many a businessperson would join a church just to get their hands on a copy! Today, we have scammers overseas trying to get our directory. Ugh.
For a variety of reasons, we have not gone to the expense of printing a church directory. One reason is that we are switching this month to a new membership database: Realm. This new database is better suited for onboarding new members, and it is less expensive than what we have used for the past several years. Growth and cost savings are always our goals, so we chose Realm as our database!
With Realm, you will have an app on your phone. From there, you will be able to keep your own profile updated and choose what other church members can see about you. Voila! You will have an instant directory in the palm of your hand, with no printing costs. Of course, it will be secure from scammers, too.
Naturally, there will be a learning curve with this new app. When the time comes, we will have “experts” ready to help you on the church patio every weekend. It’s not quite time yet, though, so please stand by.
Clergy, staff, vestry, and officers are very excited for the modernization this technology will bring to our church. Once you see it, I know you will be, too!

Monthly Food Drive for St. Bart’s Sunday Distribution
Every month, let’s supplement our Free Farmers Market with common food items that our clients are requesting! We need single-family-sized packages that are easy to distribute. In July, please bring:

- Pasta sauce
- Canned vegetables
You can drop off items on Sunday mornings or during church office hours. Thank you for your generous support of our neighbors in need.

Support Earthquake Relief Efforts
Following the two strong earthquakes that recently struck north-central Venezuela in rapid succession, Episcopal Relief & Development has been in daily contact with leadership in the Diocese of Venezuela and other impacted communities, and stands ready to provide critical assistance to those affected by the earthquakes. Please consider donating to the ERD’s International Disaster Fund; your gift will help provide both immediate relief today and support for long-term recovery.

Coffee hour at St. Bart’s is about more than just a kind treat—it’s a way for us to embody our hospitality. This month, if your last name starts with M-P, it’s your turn to host! Bring whatever sweet or savory nibble the Spirit moves you to share (cut into serving-sized pieces, please).
Note: You can borrow a plate or platter from the MPR kitchen so you don’t have to worry about retrieving your own plate later.

Monthly Fellowship Dinner

Every second Saturday of the month, the Fellowship Committee hosts a dinner/fellowship event after the 5 p.m. service. You’re welcome to come, even if you don’t attend the service. It’s a great way to get to know other parishioners and build community.

Border Church Service
Sunday, July 12, 1:30 p.m.
Border Field State Park (1500 Monument Rd., San Diego, CA 92154; enter through gate at 1250 Monument Rd.; parking is $5)
St. Bart’s family, join us on July 12 for Border Church, a weekly service held simultaneously on both sides of the US–Mexico border. Experience an afternoon of fellowship and worship as we celebrate, at the border wall, our God who knows no borders. For those wishing to carpool, we will meet in the church parking lot at 12:15 p.m. and return by 3:30 p.m. Please bring sunscreen! For many years, Border Church gathered as one congregation at Friendship Park, a binational park established in the 1970s. Increasing restrictions eventually led to the closure of the park’s binational section in 2020, forcing worshippers on each side of the border to meet separately. Despite these challenges, Border Church has continued its weekly ministry, and as of June 14, worshippers on the US side can once again gather at Border Field State Park adjacent to Las Playas, allowing both congregations to see one another while worshipping together.

Join St. Paul’s Cathedral and San Diego Pride for the annual “Light Up the Cathedral” celebration, an inspiring evening of worship, music, prayer, and public witness. This beloved interfaith gathering brings together people from across San Diego to celebrate God’s love for all people and honor the dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals and families. The evening will conclude with the lighting of the Cathedral in rainbow colors, transforming the landmark into a visible sign of welcome, hope, and belonging.

At St. Bart’s we proclaim loudly, “All are welcome, no exceptions!” As an open and affirming parish, we live into this message with love and support for our LGBTQ+ members and families and the Queer communities around us.
On Saturday, July 18, our Pride fellowship group will once again march in the San Diego Pride Parade with other Episcopal parishes to carry the love of Christ to thousands of parade-goers. Please join us in Hillcrest for this fun and fulfilling event. Carpool rides and Pride-themed “All Are Welcome” T-shirts available to all participants! Summer Piano Bar

Calling All Woodworkers!
Do you have woodworking tools, enjoy working with wood, and need more opportunities to use your tools? If the answer is YES, we have a church project that could benefit from your craftsmanship. Several volunteers are needed, and this fellowship work may take several hours over the course of several days.

Summer Pickup Choir!
Sundays, June 14–August 23, 9:15 a.m., Sanctuary
While the Parish Choir is on summer break, we will have a “pickup choir” each Sunday for the 10 a.m. service. All experience and skill levels are welcome—whether you’ve been singing in choirs your whole life or want to give it a try for the first time, you’re invited to participate! We will gather in the sanctuary at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday to learn a quick anthem and rehearse the liturgical music for the service.
Please wear shoes, long pants (skirts or dresses are fine for women), and plain tops with no graphics.

House Build in Mexico
For several years now, volunteers from St. Bart’s and Incarnation Lutheran Church have partnered with Project Mercy to build homes in Mexico for families in need. Many of these families live in makeshift shelters that offer little protection from the elements. For them, receiving a home can be life changing.
One of the most inspiring aspects of this work is that our volunteers can build a home in just one day! To see what these one-day builds look like, enjoy this short, fun video.
| Although St. Bart's contributes annually to the cost to build one home, a family at our partner church, Incarnation Lutheran, is currently hoping to raise funds to build an extra home sometime in the future. They invite you to make a donation to help them reach their goal. | | |

Prayers & Squares offers prayer quilts to all people who are in crisis and need prayer. Before requesting a quilt, please check with the recipient to see if they will accept a prayer quilt, and ask them for the specific words of prayer they would like prayed over the quilt.

The Learning Treehouse Preschool
The Learning Treehouse Preschool, located on the St. Bart’s campus, offers play-based education for children 18 months to 6 years old, with a maximum of 12 children per classroom.
