Scripture: Matthew 3:13-17 NRSV
Sermon: Remember and Be Thankful

When we are baptized into the Christian faith we also enter into the family of God. Regardless if you were an infant or 12 years old or an adult, remember your baptism and be thankful.
I have been blessed in so many ways as a pastor. I officially began pursuing my call to the ministry in 1995 and have now spent over 25 years serving God and His people. During that span I have been blessed and humbled many times executing the different aspects of the called life in ministry. I’ve been thinking about the last quarter of a century spent serving the Lord in this capacity a lot lately. Of all the wonderful tasks and responsibilities that come with this calling, I think the honor of baptizing God’s children has been the biggest blessing. I have lost count of how many baptisms I have performed through the years, but they have all been special and powerful in their own way. It is one of the highest honors and joys of ministry for me.
Today we remember Jesus’ Baptism as found in Matthew 3:13-17 and how Jesus set the example for us all. Every time I preach on this I am reminded of my own baptism and am so thankful. Thankful for God’s grace and love and mercy. Thankful for Jesus. Thankful for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Thankful for my parents and my Christian upbringing. Regardless of what age you were baptized, I hope you will take time today to give thanks for it. What God did at your baptism, and what Jesus did for you on that cross, makes all the difference in your life – today and for all eternity. Remember your baptism, and be thankful.
And always remember – God loves you and so do I.

This is the story of an American pastor whose desire to change the world grinds to a halt in a Scottish parish, where he learns to live at Godspeed. But can we live at Godspeed in big cities? Is flourishing only for rural Scotland? To live at Godspeed means to be present where we are, and present to who surrounds us. So what keeps you from being present to the people around you? Come see what flourishing at Godspeed looks like and grapple together with the question: how do I live at Godspeed in the fast-paced world of urban/suburban America?
