What is Saints Alive!?
It is a festive luncheon that happens a couple times a year in the St. Bart's sanctuary where our parishioners who are of retirement age enjoy a meal, hear some words of wisdom from our pastor and leaders, sing some songs led by our music director and have time for prayer and reflection. The meal usually consists of pizza, salad and cake. This year Mother Nina will lead a special Advent presentation.
What is the purpose of Saints Alive!?
The goal is to strengthen our relationships with one another and build community through fellowship, food, music, and reflection as we prepare for Christ's birth.
What volunteer 0pportunities are needed?
- Setup & Decorating: 10:30-11:30 a.m.
- Table Hosts: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Cleanup: 1-2 p.m.
Contact Nancy Peterson to RSVP to the event and to sign up to volunteer.

Finding Jesus in Advent: Spiritual Practices
An Advent Series with Dr. Elisabeth Koenig
Sundays, 9 a.m.
Advent is the season of Incarnation in which Christians await the birth of God in Jesus Christ. As such, it is a perfect time to talk about Discernment, because Discernment mirrors Incarnation: Whereas God takes on human flesh in Jesus, Discernment makes the relationship with God concrete and actual through lived human choice and decision-making.

Yard Work for the Morrisons - Green Thumb Ministry!
On Nov 11, a group of St Barts parishioners got together and spent the morning doing some much needed garden work at the home of Lee and Sandy Morrison. They trimmed trees and bushes, weeded, raked, repaired a raised bed, and filled three green waste cans for the Morrisons. This was the result of Mother Nina asking Sandy what besides prayers could be done to help them, and a comment of Sandy’s on Facebook that Jerry Blanton replied to. The group of 7 did a wonderful job and took a huge worry off Sandy’s shoulders. Pictured is the group with Lee, Sandy, and Sandy’s mom. Thanks to all who came to help!
If you enjoy doing yard work, contact Mike Jewett to help around campus.

REFLECTION, GRATITUDE, AND RENEWAL
By: Bishop Susan Brown Snook
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, I am filled with gratitude for each one of you and the vibrant community we share in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. As we gather with family and friends around tables laden with the fruits of the earth, let us remember those who may be experiencing hardship and uncertainty. May our hearts be open to the needs of others, and may our hands be quick to offer compassion and support to those who are less fortunate. [...]

Episcopal Church Foundation Tip:
Remember that God is Good
- Gratitude gives us reason for celebrating all we have been given, whether because of, or in spite of, what it might be. This is the day that the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad … be grateful … come what may, just because I got to be in it.
- Gratitude can be misunderstood when we think that it exists on the condition of our getting something, especially something pleasant or desired or hoped for.
- Gratitude goes deeper than simply finding the right words to respond to what we get, though words are perhaps the most convenient way we have to express it. But it, too, must come from a deeper place. It, too, must reside within us; otherwise, it becomes mere lip service.
Read Kathy Culmer's, The Joy and Gratitude Within, for more inspirations to get you in the spirit this Thanksgiving.

The Case for Love: Bridging the Divide
Tuesday, December 5th
3:00pm EST
Join us for this special preview of the upcoming film A Case for Love. This documentary, inspired by the teachings and writings of Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, examines the question of whether or not love, specifically unselfish love, is the solution to the extreme societal and political divisions and the current rending of our social contract. Anticipating Bishop Curry’s time with EPN at our 2024 Annual Conference in Houston, we are pleased to preview a work of art that documents and memorializes his witness as chief pastor and inspirational leader of our beloved Episcopal Church.
