I received the following email from a parishioner and I want to share it with you:

I am hopeful that you now have updated information on prudent and necessary public health guidelines and measures that are being put into place in Georgia and around the US in the last few days and especially the NEW Presidential guidelines issued this week. Per those guidelines, we should not be “gathering” for worship (groups of more than 10). As Christians, I believe we have a responsibility to have consideration for the health, safety and well-being of our neighbors, as well as of our own brothers and sisters here in our church family. Our church responds with caution when there are major weather situations, for example. A significant difference in those situations vs. the current pandemic is that the real problem is less visible and is also at this point mostly a prediction of something the average person cannot yet see. However, it is no less real. Washing our hands and staying 6 feet apart is no longer sufficient. Temporarily suspending gathered worship and other activities is not a defeat or a sign of lack of faith, or reacting out of fear. Instead, it shows that we are responsible citizens in the community and I believe it can open doors for new ways of staying connected and reaching out to others in our faith community and beyond. There WILL be a time when we can physically meet, hug, share, and worship face-to-face again. In the meantime, let’s adapt and put our creative hats on and see what God will do! May God keep you, and each of us grounded in Scripture, inspired, motivated, and safe in these unusual times!

I couldn’t have said it better myself. So here we are, in uncertain times, but we have faith in our certain God! With the love and care of others as our guide, here is what we will be doing at NFUMC in light of this vicious virus that has surfaced throughout the world:

  • PRAY! And trust in the One to whom we are praying! I want to ask you to also meditate on a scripture message as a church – 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Please don’t concentrate on the wicked ways and sins part, but on the trust in God through prayer and that He will indeed heal our land.
  • Starting immediately – ALL church activities have been canceled until further notice. This includes Sunday morning classes and worship services. We will continue to offer an on line worship service from my Facebook page and the NFUMC Facebook page like we did last Sunday. I want to offer you as much of a worshipful Church service as we possibly can so please get on a little before 11 and worship the Lord from the comfort of your own home or wherever you might be.
  • The church office will be closed starting Thursday, March 19th. The staff will be working remotely and will still be available to you as needed. The church phones will be answered from 9-12 Monday through Friday. All the staff will be checking and responding to emails as usual. If you have a prayer request please send an email to prayers@norcrossfirst.org
  •  Ministry outreach - I know that not all of our church family are plugged in to today’s technology and won’t be able to access our worship service on line. Some won’t even receive this email. We don’t want anyone to feel alone or isolated so if you know of anyone who falls into this category PLEASE reach out to them by phone. This ministry is ALL of our responsibility and it can make a huge difference so please serve the Lord by serving others. If you start feeling lonely or in despair in any way please reach out to someone. Call me (706-799-0245), Juan Quintanilla (404-376-1594) or Brenda Westmoreland (770-633-5645) if you need to talk with a pastor. Brenda also will be coordinating people to reach out and check on our shut-ins and others so if you would like to volunteer in this ministry please give Brenda a call. If you are already part of our care callers ministry keep doing what you’re doing.
  • Financially speaking - As we continue to be the church in new ways our operating budget continues as well. I want to encourage you to remember your church in your tithes and offerings and this can be done several ways. You can mail your check to the church or you can give on line through your personal bank’s Bill Pay. Contact Nancy Garrison at nancy@norcrossfirst.org for more details.
  • Be aware and careful! – Wash your hands, avoid contact with people you don’t know (and maybe even people you do) take care of your health, check on others, and look for weekly emails from me or from the church as we will do our best to keep you informed of our plans going forward.
  • PRAY! A reminder of the first bullet point…..

We are definitely faced with something none of us have ever had to deal with before so the fear of uncertainty can consume us if we are not careful. Remember our Lord’s words to not fear and to know that He is with us always. I so look forward to seeing you and being with you again hopefully soon. Until then, and beyond then, may God bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, and may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

Remember, God loves you and so do I.

No podría haberlo dicho mejor.
