Worship May 15, 2022
Scripture: Psalm 84:1-12 NRSV
Sermon: Not Once!
Not once has God ever stopped loving us. Not once has God ever withheld anything good from those who love Him. That alone is reason enough to worship and praise the Lord.
One of the oldest sayings I can remember is that the more things change, the more they stay the same. I’m sure there are people who can argue the absence or validity of this statement and I am not going there, but I get it. As Christians we have ALL been changed by the love and blood of Jesus Christ, and the difference He makes in our lives must be seen and experienced through us. We have all seen many changes during our years on this earth, but the one very constant in our life is God Almighty. We have all broken promises or failed to be kind or didn’t show mercy at some point in our lives – possibly even today. But not God! Not once! Christian singing group Sanctus Real put out a song last year called My God is Still the Same and it perfectly states what I’m thinking. “When did He break His promise? When did His kindness fail? Never has, never will. My God is still the same. When did He lose His power? When did His mercy change? Never has, never will. My God is still the same. Not once did He ever stop moving. Not once has He ever let go. Not once did He ever stop proving our God is in control.” God’s promises are real and I can fully and honestly say that He has never broken one of His promises to me. Not once!
In our scripture reading for this Sunday from Psalm 84 we are told that God has never withheld any good thing from those who love Him and walk with Him. So if you want to experience God’s promises, then walk with Him every day because, as the psalmist tells us, God bestows favor and honor upon us when we do. Sounds like a perfect plan.
Remember, God loves you and so do I.
