Announcements
New Rector Called

We have called our new rector! The Rev. Nina Bacas will be joining us on June 1 and will preside at her first worship service on Sunday, June 11. We have big plans for that day: we will appreciate all volunteers, honor teachers and graduates and recognize scholarship recipients, as well as enjoy a catered meal after the service. It will be so wonderful to have Nina with us to celebrate! Plan to be at church in person on June 11—you won't want to miss this!

Help Promote Our Preschool on Social Media

The St. Bart’s Preschool website has recently been updated, and we need to increase our visibility. Please take a moment to visit our preschool’s social media channels and review sites—Facebook, Instagram, Google, MapQuest, Yelp—and like/share our posts and leave positive reviews.
Upper Parking Lot Closed 9-11 a.m. on Apr 2

The upper parking lot will be closed to vehicle traffic immediately before and after the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday, April 2, as the lot will be in use for donkey and horse rides for the children. If you need to park in that lot, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the service starts. Otherwise, please park in the lower lot.
Charlie Riding Donkey
Donkey Rides This Sunday!

Four volunteers will be overseeing rides this Sunday, April 2, to ensure all children ages 3-12 have a chance to ride a donkey or horse. Teens who help out with Sunday school will also have an opportunity to ride. Various games and activities will be set up in the grass area by the Education Building to keep the children entertained while they await their turn for a ride.
Easter Flower Donations

A donation to the Flower Guild for Easter lilies and flowers is a wonderful way to celebrate Easter and honor special people in your life. Easter Flower envelopes are available in church. Please list the people you are giving thanks for or memorializing on the designated spot on the envelope and write “Flower Guild donation” on the memo line of your check. The Flower Guild is supported solely by donations. They are always thankful for your generosity at Christmas, Easter and all year long. For more information, contact Bobbie Davis, Flower Guild Chair, at (858) 485-0132.

St. Bart’s Gala Ticket Sales Closing Apr 7

Reserve your seat at the second annual St. Bart’s Gala on April 22 while you still can! Invitations have been passed out on campus over the last couple weeks, as well as mailed to our mailing list parishioners. If you haven’t received one, they are available at the back of the church or in the main office. Our venue is quickly booking up, so don’t wait to buy your tickets. As you declutter your homes for the St. Bart’s Bargain Boutique, please also consider donating high-end items, experiences and services for the Gala’s silent and live auctions. This event benefits the mission and ministry of St. Bart’s Episcopal Church. Join us for an evening of fun and fellowship as we support a good cause. Contact Demetreus Gregg with donations and/or questions.

Outreach Opportunities
Hands-On Outreach: Tijuana House Build #2, May 6

Last October, St. Bart’s teamed with Incarnation Lutheran Church to build houses for two families over one very long day in a colonia outside Tijuana. This year, we will again join forces with Incarnation to build two more houses, this time over two separate trips: one on Saturday, May 6, and one this fall. Each build will be done in a single day trip, departing from Poway, with a stop in Tecate on the way home for the best tacos you’ll ever eat. We’re looking for 8-10 adventurous hearts for this hands-on outreach experience. For more information, contact J.D. Cowart at [email protected] or (619) 857-8088.

Earth Month at St. Bart's 2023
Celebrate Earth Month at St. Bart’s

Earth Month is coming to St. Bart’s!

Earth Day was established to raise awareness of the need to protect our planet’s natural resources. First observed in several American cities on April 22, 1970, it has since grown into a global event. This year, Earth Day falls on Saturday, April 22, but St. Bart’s will be celebrating throughout the month with an array of offerings designed to help parishioners reflect on the goodness of God’s creation and our role in its stewardship, as well as take practical steps to care for our fragile island home.

Worship services on April 15-16, April 22-23, and April 29-30 will feature special liturgies, prayer, and music focused on creation care, including the California Benedicite. In addition, the following activities are scheduled:

Wednesday, April 5, 6 p.m.
ReGeneration Contemporary Worship and Eucharist
St. Bart’s mid-week contemporary service, with post-service dinner hosted by the Peace and Justice ministry

Saturday, April 15, 1 p.m
A contemplative nature experience at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve

Sunday, April 16, 10:45 a.m.
A forum in the sanctuary following the 9:30 a.m. service

Wednesday, April 26, 6-8 p.m.
A contemplative creative gathering featuring poetry to inspire new responses to creation care

Saturday, April 29, 5 p.m.
A creation care–focused service by and for various faiths in Balboa Park

Click the link below for more detailed descriptions of these offerings. Please join us in commemorating Earth Month—all are welcome!

Discounted Meals in Poway

In January, the Poway City Council approved an agreement for Charlie’s Classic Cooking to provide catering for its senior meal program. The City, in partnership with Friends of Poway Seniors, a nonprofit aimed at assisting local seniors, is now serving meals from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Oak Hall West. There is a tiered pricing structure for meals, starting at $5 for adults 50 and up. Staff, caretakers and special needs individuals pay $8, and all other guests pay $16. Reservations are required. The St. Bart’s communications committee has shared this information with our Wisdom Circle, but we thought everyone should know about this amazing program.
