This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday! We encourage everyone to wear red. Please join us this weekend for special liturgy and our celebration with Pastor Brian.

Update on Pastor Brian’s Last Sunday
If you attended church this past weekend, you heard that it turns out Pastor Brian’s contract actually goes to the end of June. However, we will still celebrate him this weekend and enjoy extra snacks and drinks after the services. And he will continue to preach at the ReGeneration services on the first and third Wednesdays of the month—hurray!

Rector Listening Sessions Organizing Committee
Rev. Bacas would like to have small group meetings with parishioners as part of her welcome and orientation. We are forming a committee to make recommendations for how to best arrange these meetings so that Nina can hear from as many members of the St. Bart’s community as possible during her first couple weeks here. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please email our Senior Warden, Costa Dillon.
|
|
Ushers Needed ASAP
Some of our regular ushers will be on extended summer vacations over the next few months. While they’re away, we have several slots to fill, including the 1st, 4th and 5th Saturdays of the month at 5 p.m. and the 2nd and 3rd Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Please contact Steve Natoli at (559) 303-4671.

|
We Need Photos!!!
The Communications Committee would love an image of our church with the hill and cross in the background to use in various media, including our parish brochure. If you have any images like this or others of our property in general, please send them to news@stbartschurch.org.

No Bereavement Group Meeting on May 25
The BPUSA community’s monthly meeting scheduled for this evening has been canceled due to a facilitator scheduling conflict. Please mark June 22 on your calendar for the next meeting.

CPR/AED Training & Certification
May 31
St. Bart’s is hosting a CPR/AED training on Wednesday, May 31, 1-4 p.m. It will be open to all staff, teachers, parishioners, preschool parents and friends and family. Before attending the class, participants must complete a MANDATORY four-hour online Red Cross pre-training.
This class is normally $250 per person; however, our security grant funding enables us to cover 12 participants.
Are you a Good Samaritan? Do you have a loved one, especially a child? Then please consider making this commitment! And please share with someone who could save YOU by being CPR certified!
If you have questions, email Susan McCormick or text her at (619) 786-7096.

Thank You for Supporting the UK Choir!
Thank you to everyone who attended and donated at our UK Choir’s Evensong last Sunday at All Soul’s Episcopal Church in Point Loma. Click the link below to experience this beautiful expression of music.

EYE Fundraisers
Thank you to everyone who attended the combined Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) and St. Luke’s youth fundraiser on Sunday. Contributions will help fund three separate trips this summer, including attendance at a leadership conference at the University of Maryland and a tour of Washington, DC, for two of our Youth Crew members and one of our staff.
Amani Ago and the St. Luke’s youth worked together to prepare and cook an authentic African meal (some arrived as early as 5 a.m.), Lauren Sleeper led other youth from the diocese in setting up and serving, and youth took turns sharing which trips they plan to attend and why they are excited to participate. It was a lovely event filled with teamwork, leadership and fellowship.
The next fundraiser is an open donation pancake breakfast on Sunday, June 11, at 9 a.m. No tickets are required. Unfortunately, this falls on St. Bart’s Appreciation Sunday, but you can still donate by clicking the link below; please type the note “EYE Fundraiser from St. Bart’s parishioner.”

Thank You, Diana!
Diana Adam is one of our vergers and main office volunteers; among her many tasks, she prepares the prayers of the people each week. If you see her in the next couple of weeks, please thank her for all her service to our church.
Diana is leaving June 11 to head to her northern Michigan family summer home and will return in October. Until then, we could use some extra help in the church office. If you feel called to help for a few hours each week, or even a few hours a month, please contact news@stbartschurch.org.

ReGen Dinner Schedule
The ReGen dinner on Wednesday, June 7, will be a potluck. If you are attending the service, you have the next two weeks to plan what you would like to contribute so we can all share a meal together. The service starts at 6 p.m.; please arrive a few minutes early to set your dish in the MPR. The Fellowship Committee will provide the meal for the Wednesday, June 21, service to welcome Rev. Nina Bacas to the ReGen family.
If you, your committee or ministry would like to provide a meal in the coming months, please contact Colleen Chapin.

Lunches for Interfaith
The Youth Crew and Wisdom Circle have had fun and meaningful experiences packing lunches for Interfaith Community Services over the past few months. Next month, join the Youth Crew on June 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m., and/or the Wisdom Circle on June 20, 12:30-1:15 p.m., both in the MPR. These service events are wonderful opportunities for fellowship.

Thrift Store Truck Repurposed
St. Bart’s has donated our old thrift store truck to one of St. Luke’s congregants, Mmunga, so he can begin a delivery business! This truck served our church and community for many years. We’re so happy it will remain in use, and we look forward to seeing how our church might help meet future storage and transportation needs.

Chaparral Chapel
May 27
Join us this Saturday, May 27, 1-3 p.m., as Pastor Brian Petersen leads us in another Chaparral Chapel at Buena Vista Park (1601 Shadowridge Dr., Vista, CA 92081). This event will be an immersive experience of Creation and Spirit as we journey together to learn how to better listen to and understand the unique voices of our local ecosystems. The hike is a 2¼-mile loop on an almost entirely flat dirt trail. Kids and leashed dogs are welcome!

Parishioners are invited to send in photos and short announcements about their families that they would like to share with the congregation: graduations, marriages, birth of a child, promotions, transfers, new house, upcoming performances or games that the congregation can attend and support. We all missed years of connecting with one another in person. Here is an opportunity to build back our community and help us learn about each other and share the Good News! Please send photos and stories to news@stbartschurch.org.

Sandra Chapin has been a member of the San Diego Epiphyllum Society for over 30 years. For her, the month of May means it is time for epiphyllum blooms and the annual Epi Flower Show at Balboa Park. Every Mother’s Day, Sandra can be found at Casa del Prado exhibiting her epis in a themed display (or two or three). This year the show had a circus theme, and Sandra’s ferris wheel mini display took first place—her ninth consecutive win in that division! Sandra also volunteers in the Epiphyllum House at the Safari Park.

David Anderson, a past recipient of one of our St. Bart’s college scholarships, graduated from Chapman University on May 21 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance and a minor in Music Business. He was recognized with several awards: Music Business Minor, String Ensemble Music Major, Music Major Departmental Honors (for high GPA) and the Conservatory of Music Award. David performed as a violinist in the school’s orchestra and in multiple ensembles, including the Temianka Quartet, Commercial Ensemble and Mariachi Panteras. He was copresident of The Collective, a group that organizes music and arts events around Orange County. David also writes and performs original music in a band called Lo-Tide. In addition to his music endeavors, he ran for the university’s cross country and track teams each year and was nominated for the Don Perkins Leadership Award. David plans to pursue a Master of Science degree in Music Industry at the University of Southern California this fall. When he is in San Diego visiting his parents (one of whom is Nancy Anderson, a guitarist at St. Bart’s), David performs with the St. Bart’s orchestra. We continue to be so proud of this former St. Bart’s youth!
