You live daily with Artificial Intelligence. In our “Mostly Month of Mikes” preaching series, Michael Vaughn introduced the term Anglican Intelligence for our Monday night Bible study. Now, thanks to our own Costa Dillon, we have Organic Intelligence! Yes, the fifth film of the horror-comedy franchise Attack of the Killer Tomatoes made its debut at Comic-Con this year.
While in college at UC Davis, Costa dreamed up this plague of genetically mutated tomatoes gone wild, and the very first film was shot here in San Diego. The fifth one, with Costa as writer and producer, is now back to its roots (no pun intended), with filming done all around our town. Last year, I was able to watch some scenes at the USS Midway, and Father Jacob did the same down in Chula Vista!
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, rated PG-13, will be released in select theaters on Friday, August 7. See it at UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas and AMC Chula Vista. And in September you’ll be able to stream it at home.
When you see Costa, do congratulate him and encourage him to start work on #6!

Monthly Food Drive for St. Bart’s Sunday Distribution
Every month, let’s supplement our Free Farmers Market with common food items that our clients are requesting! We need single-family-sized packages that are easy to distribute. In August, please bring:
- Peanut butter
- Jelly/jam
- Snack bars
- Pasta sauce
- Cooking oil
You can drop off items on Sunday mornings or during church office hours. Thank you for your generous support of our neighbors in need.

Coffee hour at St. Bart’s is about more than just a kind treat—it’s a way for us to embody our hospitality. This month, if your last name starts with Q-Z, it’s your turn to host! Bring whatever sweet or savory nibble the Spirit moves you to share (cut into serving-sized pieces, please).
Note: You can borrow a plate or platter from the MPR kitchen so you don’t have to worry about retrieving your own plate later.

The 2026 Rummage Sale is scheduled for September 24-26. Proceeds from the annual sale, now in its fourth year, support outreach work in the community and abroad. The next round of donation collections will be held in August. Donations must be in excellent condition, new or very gently used; to see the list of accepted items, click the button below. Feeding San Diego
Sundays, 9:30-10 a.m. & 1:30-4 p.m., MPR
Thank you to everyone who volunteered at our Free Farmers Market in July! And thank you to all who donated pantry items for our monthly food drive—these staples are in high demand and greatly help those with food insecurity.
Two of our customers’ biggest needs are cooking oil and pasta sauce, so please continue to bring in those items. We are especially looking for smaller-sized containers.
We are also in need of helpers for both the 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. volunteer shifts on Sundays in August. Sign up at the link below.

Meals Needed for Youth CREW
Wednesdays, 6 p.m., Youth Room or MPR
Our Youth CREW programming returns on Wednesday evenings starting September 2, and we need volunteers to provide dinner for 8-10 youth each week. Kid-friendly meals such as spaghetti and salad, fried chicken and fixings, hot dogs and hamburgers, and pizza are always a hit! If you can help out, please sign up using the link below. The Friends of Music program has three levels: Associate ($50-$149), Patron ($150-$499), and Benefactor ($500+). The Patron and Benefactor levels come with additiona benefits, such as two tickets to each performance and recognition in the concert programs. Congratulations to Gabriel Oakes!
Congratulations to Gabriel Oakes, who was raised here at St. Bart’s, on his ordination to the priesthood at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle on July 18. Gabriel recently graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary and will be serving as a curate at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Redmond, WA. They are living with their wife, Rachel, in Seattle.

Book Liquidation Sale

Parishioner Sandy Morrison is holding a book liquidation sale at St. Bart’s! Over 2,000 books in many genres, including fiction, history, crafts, self-help, and theology/spirituality, will be available. Hardcovers $2 each; paperbacks $0.50 to $1 each; or fill a paper grocery bag for $5. All proceeds will be donated to a St. Bart’s ministry. For more information, contact Sandy Morrison.

Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry
Prayers & Squares offers prayer quilts to all people who are in crisis and need prayer. Before requesting a quilt, please check with the recipient to see if they will accept a prayer quilt, and ask them for the specific words of prayer they would like prayed over the quilt.

The Learning Treehouse Preschool
The Learning Treehouse Preschool, located on the St. Bart’s campus, offers play-based education for children 18 months to 6 years old, with a maximum of 12 children per classroom.
