St. Bart's Fourth Annual Rummage Sale

Loaves and Fishes

The Rev. Mother Nina Bacas

One of my favorite St. Bart’s stories is from the first rummage sale in 2023. When I came to the church a month later and heard of its success, I asked, with great anticipation, “Will we do it again?” Everyone thought not, since hadn’t everyone already cleared out their homes and storage spaces for this one? What would be left to give? Who knew that three rummage sales later, the donations and the volunteers would keep coming—just like the miracles of the loaves and fishes!

The rummage sale is an enormous undertaking, all in support of our Outreach partners. The work involved is year-round and requires so many people. Our truly fearless leaders are Connie Cross, Cheryl Roop, Paula Kriner, and Widney Hawthorne, along with other helpers. And on the sale days, over 60 people volunteered each day, including people from other churches, Poway High, and the Scouts! Many bonds were formed and many laughs shared.

No doubt many shoppers’ prayers were answered when they found just what they needed at our sale. The bake sale and plant sale are also a perennial hit! To all of you who volunteered and/or shopped, thank you for your contributions to the St. Bart’s rummage sale. We raised a new high total of $17,600—another miracle!

SEASON OF CREATION:

Blessing of the Animals

Saturday, October 3, 5 p.m., Chapel

Sunday, October 4, 8 & 10 a.m., Sanctuary

Our annual Blessing of the Animals is this weekend! Bring your dog, cat, horse, or other animal (for their safety, please keep pocket pets in carriers) to services for a blessing. If your pet can’t come to church or doesn’t do well in crowded settings, you are welcome to bring their photo to be blessed in their stead, or pick up a vial of holy water to bless your pet at home.

SEASON OF CREATION:

Critter Encounters

Commemorate Your Pet with a Memorial Rock

Sunday, October 4, After Services, Patio

St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, believed that everything in nature shared the same Creator and were part of one family. He was known for treating all animals with deep respect and gentleness.

Inspired by St. Francis’ example, the Daughters of the King are offering an opportunity for our congregation to remember their pets who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. This Sunday, October 4, they will provide paint and rocks that you can decorate and place in the church’s pet memorial garden, located outside the administration building at the feet of the St. Francis statue. There are memorial rocks already there, so feel free to stop by for some inspiration!

You can also request a prayer be said for your pet (or for anyone) by the Chapter—complete a DOK prayer card, contact the Daughters through the church office, or email Sandy Morrison.

Holy Eucharist at Casa de las Campanas: October 4, 1 p.m.

CASA DE LAS CAMPANAS:

Holy Eucharist

Sunday, October 4, 1 p.m., Assisted Living Activities Room

St. Bart’s will hold a worship service at Casa de las Campanas this Sunday at 1 p.m. If you are a Casa resident, please join us!

Note: You can borrow a plate or platter from the MPR kitchen so you don’t have to worry about retrieving your own plate later.
