Saint Nick & treats

Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick

 The Reverend Mother Nina Bacas

We had so much fun with ol’ Saint Nick last Sunday morning. Our children and youth left their shoes outside the doors of their Sunday School rooms, and, miraculously, foil-covered chocolate coins appeared inside them! Our own Mike Jewett dressed up as the “Bishop of Myra” and dropped in to our 10 a.m. Eucharist with candy canes for our children. And Widney Hawthorne made the cutest Rice Krispies treats I have ever seen. [...]

2024 Stewardship Update

We hope you are enjoying a joyous Advent and holiday season.

Through last Friday, total stewardship pledges and support for 2024 are at $739,555 from 178 households (61% participation). This includes 16 returning families and 26 new pledges. Thank you for your generosity!

The vestry and stewardship committee will continue to reach out to households that have not yet pledged. Every pledge is important, no matter the size!

Questions? Contact Anne Hand, Campaign Co-Chair, Judy Macemon, or Bill Angus, St. Bart’s Treasurer.

Christmas Offering envelopes

Christmas Offerings

Please consider making a Christmas offering this Advent to remember a special occasion (like a holiday, anniversary or birthday) or to give thanks for friends, family, good health or good fortune. You can check a box on the offering envelope to earmark your donation for music, flowers or Christmas, or write in a ministry to which you would like to make a special contribution during this season of giving. Print your name on the front of the envelope, and the name(s) of those you are honoring on the back. St. Bart’s is thankful for your generosity at Christmas and all year long.

“Finding Jesus in Advent: Spiritual Practices”

An Advent Series with Dr. Elisabeth Koenig

Sunday, 9 a.m.

Advent is the season of Incarnation, during which Christians await the birth of God in Jesus Christ. It is a perfect time to talk about Discernment, because Discernment mirrors Incarnation: Whereas God takes on human flesh in Jesus, Discernment makes the relationship with God concrete and actual through lived human choice and decision-making. Please join us on December 17 for the last session of this Sunday morning series.

New session starts Jan 9

The Tuesday Morning Book Review is taking the holidays off and will resume on Tuesday, January 9, at 7:30 a.m. We will continue to meet at Starbucks on the corner of Rancho Bernardo Rd. and Pomerado Rd. In this book, he describes life in a Nazi death camp and its lessons for spiritual survival.

Rummage Sale

St. Bart’s Rummage Sale

May 18

Mark your calendars! The second annual St. Bart’s Rummage Sale will be held at the church on May 18, 2024. As you begin your annual post-holiday decluttering, please hold on to items that could be donated to the rummage sale! We LOVE clean, lightly worn clothes, purses, novels, jewelry, functional electronics and collectibles. Donations will be taken starting in April. Please keep this ministry in prayer over the next few months, and if you feel called to volunteer, reach out to Cheryl Roop.

Parishioner News

Parishioners are invited to send in photos and short announcements about their families that they would like to share with the congregation: graduations, marriages, birth of a child, promotions, transfers, new house, upcoming performances or games that the congregation can attend and support. We all missed years of connecting with one another in person. Here is an opportunity to build back our community and help us learn about each other and share the Good News! Please send photos and stories to news@stbartschurch.org.

Cathie kids and dogs

Donations and Dogs with Cathie Roy

Last week, a couple of our Youth Crew members stopped by Cathie Roy’s house to help her load up donations to be taken to Goodwill and Straight From the Heart, a thrift store benefiting foster children. (And they set aside a few specialty items for St. Bart’s upcoming rummage sale!) As a reward for their efforts, the youth got to play with Cathie’s adorable dogs—fun and fellowship were had by all!
