School Meals Available for K-12 Students
The Fairview Park City School District is continuing to provide meals during the extended school closure for families who rely on free or reduced-cost meals for their children in grades K-12.

We will offer no-cost, grab-and-go meals (each student will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches).

**We will be distributing meals on MONDAYS ONLY from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.**

Pick-up is in the back parking lot at Gilles-Sweet Elementary.

Please fill out this form so our food service department can accurately estimate how many meals to prepare. If you previously filled out a form for meals, please fill out this new version for the new Monday pickup schedule.

Please contact Diana Hill, Food Service Director, at dhill@fairview.k12.oh.us or call (440) 365-3525 x4120 if:

- You are unable to pick-up meals and would like to request delivery
- You recently experienced a reduction in income and would like to apply for meal benefits
- You need to confirm if you qualify for free or reduced-cost meal benefits
- You need help applying for meal benefits
- You have any other questions related to food resources.

Highlights from Dr. Wagner's recent updates
Dr. Wagner has sent regular updates regarding the extended school closure. Here are some key highlights, in addition to the school meals information listed above.

Spring Break
We know many of you made plans for Spring Break and there have been a lot of questions how things may change.  I've had some conversations with Board of Education members, and here are the two possible scenarios we will enact once we learn more from Governor DeWine:

Stay at home order lifted after April 6th:
Tuesday, April 7 - Staff only (Students get an extra day of Spring Break)
Wednesday, April 8 through Monday, April 13 - Spring Break
Tuesday, April 14 - All students and staff report

Stay at home order continued after April 6th:
Tuesday, April 7 through Monday, April 13 - Spring Break  (Extra day for everyone!)
Tuesday, April 14 - All students and staff continue home-based teaching and learning

Regardless of which path we take, the fourth quarter will officially begin on Tuesday, April 14.

Testing and Graduation Requirements, School Meals, and Meetings of Local Government

On March 25, the  Ohio General Assembly unanimously approved H.B. 197 which:
  • Waives K-12 testing and loosens graduation criteria: The law will waive state testing requirements and report cards for this school year, and provides additional flexibility to allow high school seniors to graduate.
  • Waives limitations on distance learning for Ohio K-12 schools: The law will allow schools to use distance learning to make up for the weeks schools will be closed.
  • Allows for school meal programs to continue now and through the summer: The measure temporarily exempts schools and other entities from state food-processing requirements so they can continue serving meals to students.
  • Permits public meetings electronically: Current law mandates that most government bodies must conduct business in person, but this legislation temporarily allows public meetings, including School Board meetings, to be held remotely, so long as the public has access.
While teaching and learning remains flexible through home-based learning, students will still be expected to meet grade-level requirements.

Warriors of the Week
We have three students who were selected as Warrior of the Week prior to the extended school closure.

Mackenzie W. - 6th Grade
Mackenzie W. is this week's 6th grade Warrior of the Week. Mackenzie has stepped it up over the past several weeks and the sixth grade team is proud of her! Not only has she worked hard to complete all of her work, but she is going above and beyond to stay ahead. Mackenzie always has a plan on what to complete next and shares those with her teachers. When she puts her mind to something, she works hard to get it done. Mr. Chevalier even says she is a SUPERSTAR in ELA! Keep up the hard work, Mackenzie!

Connor B. - 7th Grade
Connor B. is this week's 7th grade Warrior of the Week. Connor is a hard working student who is a team player in class. His upbeat personality adds to any group he is in.  He has been persevering in all of his classes and this shows in his progress! Connor doesn't hesitate to ask for help when needed and is an advocate for himself. As a student athlete, participating in basketball for the middle school and AAU as well as travel baseball, he balances his responsibilities well. Great job, Connor, keep up the great work!

Lacey M. - 8th Grade
Lacey M. is this week's 8th grade Warrior of the Week! Lacey's academic and athletic accomplishments are amazing, her intuitive ability to look beyond the obvious makes her a standout student. Whether it's a political debate or a friendly conversation about the merits of Cane's Chicken, she always brings original ideas to her peers and teachers.
