Weekly News Blast for the Week of December 10, 2018
Thursday, December 13th
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Several traditional and educational games will be provided as well as dinner.
Similar to last school year, families are again invited to join other families here at Gilles-Sweet to interact and play a variety of fun games. Many of the games are traditional, however, we also have a few educational and social/emotional games. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will also be here to help raise awareness for Pennies for Patients and have some giveaways. Dinner will include pizza, salad, cookies/chips, and water.
Please consider making the time to join us for a fun event the students really enjoy.
3rd Grade Concert on December 18
The 3rd grade concert, My Marvelous Magical Sleigh, will be Tuesday, December 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Please have your student to his/her designated classroom indicated below NO LATER THAN 6:40 p.m. Anticipate limited parking.
Mr. Fleischer Room 123
Miss Lehman Room 123
Mrs. Petruzzi Room 125
Mrs. Keitlen Band Room
Mrs. Chapman Band Room
If your student has a special part where a costume is required, please dress your student in the costume at home and have your student ready to go once he/she arrives at the high school (I will be sending elf, reindeer and Santa costumes home the week before the concert). If your child does not have a special part that requires a costume, the dress code is dress pants, dress shirts, dresses, skirts, and dress shoes. NO JEANS ARE PERMITTED.
Once the concert is over, PLEASE DO NOT remove your student from the auditorium or the hallway. Please wait in the auditorium until he/she is back inside of the classroom.
Please remember that this concert is a large part of your student's second quarter grade, as it corresponds with the Ohio Third Grade Music Standards.
Thank you for everything, and I look forward to seeing you on December 18th!
All children will go out for recess as long as the wind chill temperature is above 20 degrees. The fresh air and freedom of movement is an excellent way to give students the needed break from the classroom and prepares them for a productive afternoon of learning.
So please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, gloves and boots if appropriate!
Thank you for your cooperation!
Birthdays in a Bag Service Project
During our PBIS PRIDE house meetings, students have been learning about making positive choices at Gilles-Sweet. Making positive choices means we are safe, we take care of our bodies, and we are aware of how our choices affect others.
During the months of November and December, students will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on our community by creating "Birthdays in a Bag" for children in need. Gilles-Sweet has once again partnered with Laura's Home Women's Crisis Center (A branch of The City Mission of Cleveland) to organize this project. Laura's Home Women's Crisis Center provides shelter, food and other resources to women and children in need. At this time there are 32 mothers staying at Laura's Home with a total of 94 children. Currently there are 2,973 children without a permanent home in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
In order to create "Birthdays in a Bag," we are asking for donations of the items below through Wednesday, December 12th. We assigned items to grade levels in hopes of collecting a more even amount of each item.
- First grade: Cake mix and cupcake liners
- Second grade: Frosting and birthday candles
- Third grade: Forks and crepe paper
- Fourth grade: Birthday napkins and fun plates (8-12 pack)
- Fifth grade: "Happy Birthday" banner and medium-sized gift bags (to pack the items in)
Any donation you can make will help our students positively affect others through giving!
Thank you for your continued support!
