Weekly News Blast for the Week of April 1, 2019
Special Family Event with Jessie Funk
on Monday, April 1
Join us for a very special event with nationally-recognized guest speaker/author/artist Jessie Funk as she presents on the topic of "Helping Students Succeed Through Emotional Intelligence and Resilience" on Monday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Gilles-Sweet Elementary.

Jesse shares dynamic music, entertaining and visually stories, and real-world tools to help kids build confidence, set boundaries to have healthy relationships, and learn the power of forgiveness. The presentation is designed to build resilience and mental toughness. Educators and parents can expect their students to leave the presentation with motivation to become leaders of their lives.

About Jessie Funk
Jessie Funk holds a leadership certification from the University of Notre Dame, is a certified life-coach, holds a B.S. Degree in Psychology, as well as a M.A. in Theater- emphasizing in how to use the arts as a healing modality for teenagers. Jessie is a former leadership facilitator for Franklin Covey and has also been a professional youth speaker for fifteen years, speaking for high schools and leadership conferences all over the country.

She is a 6-time published author and her passion to help teens led her to start an international non-profit organization called "Ivy Girl Academy," a confidence and leadership training program for teen ladies.

As a professional vocalist she has released five solo albums, has toured 36 states with the Broadway musical "Footloose," has also been hired for hundreds of recording sessions as a studio vocalist including songs heard on TV's "America's Got Talent," ESPN and "The Biggest Loser." Jessie has walked away from three record deals unwilling to sell her soul for fame. She chooses to use her voice to lift and inspire in positive ways.

She also just began a life-long dream of pursuing a doctorate degree. She is earning her license as a clinical social worker and focusing on therapeutic leadership training practices for her dissertation. Jessie's favorite role in life is that of adored wife and mother to two.

If you have any questions about this April 1st or would like any resources on mental health, please let me know.

Ohio Achievement Tests
Testing time is here again. By helping your child become physically and mentally prepared, you are helping them lower any feelings of test anxiety. Test anxiety is a very common experience; however, with some preparation, can be reduced and improve their performance.

Please help your son/daughter prepare by:

  • Getting an adequate night's sleep (8-10 hours)
  • Wake up on time to avoid rushing and arrive to school on time
  • Eat a nutritious breakfast
  • Reminding them to listen closely to all directions and read directions carefully
  • Answer questions they know first, and come back to the harder questions later

When your child feels confident in their test taking skills, they will have less text anxiety and be able to focus on doing their best and showing what they have learned.

GREAT WORK GILLES-SWEET!
Together we helped raised $5,603
Congratulations! Gilles-Sweet Elementary School has officially completed its Pennies for Patients campaign, and we couldn't be more grateful to you and your entire school community for your outstanding efforts. Thanks to you, our Hero Squad is one step closer to accomplishing our mission: a world without blood cancers.

The money you collected will fund important cancer research and local patient services - both vital to the fight against blood cancers. Now more than ever, our patients are relying on our support to cover the cost of care. In the past year, we have doubled the number of patients assisted through our patient financial aid grants. Thanks to your school community, we can continue to meet the demand for this, and other patient services. Your students are truly a key part of our patient support system. Your school's generosity does make a difference!
Please pass along our deepest appreciation to your students and faculty. Your hard work and dedication are truly inspiring.
