Weekly News Blast for the Week of November 5, 2018
November 6 is Election Day!

Information about the Fairview Park City Schools Issue 5 Operating Levy Renewal
Here are FIVE FACTS about ISSUE 5:
  • This is a renewal (no new taxes) of a levy first passed in 2003. Voters renewed the same levy in 2008 and in 2012. Issue 5 will continue the current funding that has been in place for years -- $2.69 million annually for our schools.
  • Renewing the levy is critical to help extend the current operating budget to the year 2020. The operating budget includes staff and teacher salaries, benefits, utilities, and supplies.
  • The ballot language reads that this is an "emergency levy." This term "Emergency" is a legal term defined by the state of Ohio. There is no actual emergency. "Emergency" levies raise a flat dollar amount (in this case $2.69 million) instead of a specific millage rate.
  • This renewal will maintain the excellence that has been established over the years and keeps the district financially stable.
  • Passage of this levy will ensure that students continue to receive the same support they are currently receiving from:
* Classroom teachers, educational classroom aides and tutors
* Nurses, counselors, librarians and support staff
* Programs for students
* Student transportation

All for Books Program
We are going to have a "coin war" among the grades at Gilles-Sweet the week of 11/5 - 11/9. For each $5 that a classroom collects, they get entered into a drawing for a bean bag chair for their classroom! Whatever grade wins the coin war (collects the most money) gets popsicles! With your help, donations will help buy books for kids in need. Please consider sending in $1 or loose change the week of 11/5 - 11/9. Thank you, Gilles-Sweet PTA
