Gilles-Sweet Elementary
News & updates for the week of May 18, 2020 *  Learning-at-Home Edition
Did your student leave any materials/belongings at school or have library items to return?
Teachers have been in to clean out their rooms and student desks, lockers, and cubbies the past two weeks. They bagged and marked each student's materials. Realizing some families may want to have these at home sooner than later, we will have pick up days the week of May 18th-22nd.

Please use the front driveway and park along the sidewalk.  Tables will be set up by classroom teachers' names outside the front doors where students' belongings will be bagged and marked with the students' name.

If your child also has any library materials that you would like to return, please place them on the book cart located next to the tables outside the front doors.

Let's Celebrate the 5th Graders
With the unusual circumstance this year, our 5th grade students have not been able to enjoy many of the typically Gilles-Sweet farewell activities.  Thank you to the PTA who will help us provide 5th grade students with a few farewell gifts.

5th Grade Farewell Banner:  Students are invited to stop by Gilles-Sweet (front driveway) on Friday, May 22nd from 10 am - 2 pm to sign a banner.

5th Grade Tee-Shirts:   Each 5th grade student will receive a 5th grade tee shirt that has all the students' names displayed on the back of the shirt and Class of 2027 on the front.

5th Grade SlideShow:   Students yearbook pictures as well as other school candid pictures will be organized into a slide show and shared with 5th grade students and families.

Gilles-Sweet Staff Farewell Video: The staff of Gilles-Sweet is currently working on a video of farewell messages to 5th grade students as they begin their middle school careers.

Family and Community Engagement
Hello Fairview Park Families!

I hope all my  Rock Star Parents  are doing well!  It is hard sometimes to say how we are really doing with all the unknown around us.  I have truly learned to just look at "one day at a time."  It really is the best we can do right now! Below are some ideas of supporting you and your child with your mental health.  I hope these can be another tool to have in your tool box!

To help support with May being Mental Health Awareness is a great link to the best apps to help with Mental Health for your child.

Another fun tool is the Mood Meter  Many times our children don't have the words of how they are this article and visual, you could ask your child to point.....where is your energy and where is your pleasantness.  Then you would have a good idea of how your child is feeling.

*Over the last two weeks I have had a lesson on a different social emotional skill....Optimistic Thinking and Self Awareness.  I hope you and your family have enjoyed the lessons.  This week we are going to find out more about - Self Management - I am sure everyone needs a little help in making sure we are controlling our emotions!
Have a great week!
