Weekly News Blast for the Week of September 23, 2019
Gilles-Sweet PRIDE Houses
This week students will be participating in our first PRIDE house meeting of the year! We will be getting to know the members of our new PRIDE house "families" with fun ice-breaker activities that go with the "Start With Hello" program. This is our third year of bringing the "Start With Hello" program to Gilles-Sweet. "Start With Hello" was created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization to help prevent social isolation in schools. Our students will learn about social isolation, how to identify a student who is isolated or lonely, and then learn how to reach out and help that student be included. The ice breaker activities we will do in PRIDE house gives the students an opportunity to practice STARTing WITH HELLO!
From the PTA
Welcome back to school!

We hope everyone is having a smooth transition easing back into their schedules for the new school year.  The PTA has been busy planning events and activities, and we hope you will consider joining this year.  We have streamlined our membership form this year, so we have one form for all of the PTA units.  You have the option to join all, or just one. Membership forms will be going home with each student. We also have the option to join online at   FPPTA.digitalpto.com and pay via paypal (paypal charges a small convenience fee).

Our first meeting is on Monday September 16th at 7pm in the library loft.  Babysitting is available, and we encourage everyone to join us!

September is always a big membership month for the PTA, so we want to thank all of our members who have joined and supported the PTA so far.  We will be having a week full of raffles (the week of October 7th) and each day that week, 4 students and 1 staff member (who have joined by September 30) will win fun gift cards!
If you have any questions about joining the PTA, please don't hesitate to reach out to Maureen McDonald at  moegroves716@yahoo.com.

Thank you to all who have joined - we know it's going to be a great year!

Hello Fairview Park Families!

As parents, what do we ask our children everyday --  "How was your day at school? or What did you learn in school today?"

Do we ever get the answers we want? No.

So here is a list of questions that may work better to really see how your child's day was or how they feel about school:
PTA Reflections

Homework Help at the Fairview Park Library
The Fairview Park Library is one of several branches in the Cuyahoga County Public Library system that will once again be offering free, after-school homework help for students in grades K-8.  Our homework mentor, Miss P will be returning for her 4th  year to help kids with homework and other assignments.

We will be having an open house on Wednesday, September 18 from 3:30 - 5:30 for families to meet staff and see the space.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jennifer Haag at the Fairview Park Library.
Support Your School with Box Tops
Dear Gilles-Sweet families,

You may have noticed over the summer that some Box Top labels have changed. Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products. You can still clip and send them to school during our October Box Tops collection drive.
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label. To download the app simply visit your app store and download the Box Tops for Education app!
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt.

Box Tops are still worth 10ยข each for our school.  The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online. If you have any questions about how the new Box Tops program works please contact me or click the link to visit the Box Tops for Education website.
