Library Resources
Are you looking for ideas on how to encourage some recreational reading with your student?  MS/HS Librarian, Mrs. Dill, has collected some online resources and posted them on the FHS/MMS Library home page.

Access this list on the  FHS/MMS Library page.  Scroll down to the " In This Together Ohio" logo.  The link is in the text to the right.  She has MS and HS authors, illustration lessons, reading suggestions, story and poetry starters, web comics... and will add more as she finds them.

While on the FHS/MMS Library page, check out Book Talk under the Book/Ebooks tab.  Mrs. Dill has written reviews of many MS and HS books.  Be sure to click the "Previous" link at the bottom of the page to see more reviews and recorded book talk recommendations.

Additionally, if students need to download the OverDrive app to their device to be able to use digital content from Cuyahoga County Public Library, they should go here  to get Libby, the newest app.  Directions are very clear.

May you all find some comfort in a good book during this stressful time.

Family and Community Engagement
Hello Fairview Park Families!

I hope that everyone is healthy and happy!

With all of the challenges posed by the current pandemic, promoting the social and emotional well-being of our students has never been more important. Each week, I am going to enclose in my newsletter a social emotional skill to promote and practice with your child at all grade levels. (Click the link below for a K-12 lesson).

This week's skill is focusing on Optimistic Thinking!

We have had some zoom meetings with parents K-12.  It has been a great way for me and other district staff to hear how it is going at home with everyone.  We understand it is not easy, but feel that all our parents are truly inspirational on their effort. Parents, please remember, your job is to create a routine for learning and allowing your child to "not know." Remember, "not knowing" is a sign of readiness and excitement of learning. Have your child reach out to their teacher for feedback and questions. (Interested in participating in a parent to parent zoom meeting - email me).

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  We will be putting out all kinds of information and tools for students, parents and staff.  Now more than ever, we want to make sure that everyone has the tools they need to stay positive and emotionally fit.  Be well.

Warriors of the Week
6th grade ~ Molly K.
Molly K is our 6th grade Warrior of the Week! Although we are just now awarding Molly with the title of "WOW", she has shown traits of being a top-notch Warrior for a while. Not only does she complete her assignments on time, but it is evident that she gives her all on everything she does. Speaking of which, Molly's latest art project was inventive and extremely well-done. We are proud of you and we miss you, Molly!

7th grade ~ Shelby B.
Shelby B. is our 7th Grade Warrior of the Week!  Shelby gets off to a fast start every week, and sets weekly goals and effectively communicates with staff, peers, and her parents. She is a hard worker and has been turning in all of her assignments as soon as they are assigned. Shelby produces thoughtful work that is always to her best ability. Shelby is kind to everyone and is quick to smile or offer encouragement. Shelby is one of the most conscientious students in social studies and stays up to date with her work. Also, Shelby does a good job reaching out when there is an obstacle for her.  What you might not know is that Shelby is in the band and plays the clarinet.  She is always prepared, gives her best effort, and is eager to learn new concepts.  As you can see Shelby is friendly to her peers and is a pleasure to work with. So proud of you Shelby! Keep up the fabulous work!

8th grade ~ Andy C.
Andy C. is our 8th Grade Warrior of the Week!  Andy has done such a great job in social studies for the past 2 weeks! He has actively asked for help, joined us on Google Meets, and completed a really creative project. We are so proud of you Andy! Keep it up in all your subjects!!

9th grade ~ Tyler G.
Tyler G. is our 9th Grade Warrior of the Week!  Tyler is a great example of how students are adapting to working from home.  He has been in contact with his teachers to ask questions and get feedback on assignments and projects.  Tyler has figured out how to work effectively from home and not only get current work done but is budgeting his time to complete past assignments.  Keep up the good work Tyler!

10th grade ~ Kevin M.
Kevin M. is our 10th Grade Warrior of the Week!  Kevin has come so far this year in his effort and hard-work. He has truly shown grit in his approach to math class. Even during the quarantine, he has continued to step up his effort and worked hard to earn his scores. He is learning the value of self
discipline and it is making him a better student. I am so proud of the progress he has made this year!

11th grade ~ Ana K.
Ana K. is our 11th grade Warrior of the Week! Ana has not missed a single beat since remote learning began.  She turns in quality assignments on time and even early.  We miss her smile and positive attitude in class but she keeps us smiling with her remote learning work ethic.

12th grade ~ Spencer S.
Spencer C. is our 12th Grade Warrior of the Week!  Spencer is an incredibly mature and insightful young man.  His work is also of high quality, well thought out, and very unique.  Spencer always brings an interesting perspective and often thinks "out of the box".  When reviewing his work, I often find myself saying things such as, "I would not have thought of that", or "What an interesting way of looking at things".  He often makes incredible connections between our classroom material and the outside world or his personal life.  I am always impressed with his ability to make these interesting connections.  His capacity for higher level thinking is impressive.  It has been a pleasure getting to know Spencer.  He truly is the type of student that contributes positively and enhances any class.  He is a polite, respectful, and intelligent young man, who clearly pays great attention to detail and puts forth an outstanding amount of effort in all that he does.  He is preparing himself for a future of success in whatever endeavor he chooses to pursue.
