Science Symposium Showcases Student Ingenuity
Students blinded attendees with science on Thursday night with the 27th Annual Holy Names Science Research Symposium, led by Mr. Licari.

For several students, it was an opportunity to present the results of a three-year program in which they choose the area to focus their research, which ranged from brain wave analysis to spinal cord injuries.

Nine students in all participated, ranging from sophomores to seniors: Calista and Castine Hardesty, Hafsa Khan, Katelyn Regan, Carolyn Stum, Makayla Mackey, Riley Schmitz, Dahlia Valencia, and Patricia Whalen.
Student Research Project Leads to Procedural Change at Albany Med
Senior Makayla Mackey is all heart.

She gets it from her sister, Madison ’22, and her mother, Denyse. She most definitely gets it from her late father, Warren.

Warren Mackey passed away in 2021 after battling heart disease. Not only has his family endeavored to keep his spirit alive with the establishment of the Warren & Denyse Mackey Foundation (more on that later), but Makayla’s taking things a step forward. She has become an agent of change, championing advancements in health care so other families can spend more time with their loved ones.
Computer and Technology Class Tours NanoTech Complex
SUNY Polytechnic Institute played host to Ms. Flansburg's Computer and Technology students Monday morning.

The students, along with Mrs. Henderson Tocci and Mrs. McGarry were given a tour of the wafer fabrication facilities, including the cleanrooms, at the Albany NanoTech Complex.
Art Project Beautifies Neighborhood
With the help of Mrs. Sela, senior Allie Lasch painted a colorful mural at the St. John's/St. Ann's Outreach Center over the weekend!

Throughout the day many locals stopped and commented on how grateful they were to have someone paying attention and bringing beauty to their neighborhood.

Children stopped to smile and chat, and cars honked as they passed. It was a happy event! Way to go Allie, and thanks to her fellow seniors who joined in the effort! The Center, along with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany have been among those expressing their gratitude on social media.
Sophomore Wins Writing Contest
Congratulations to Sophomore Jade McMullen, who took home First Place in Harvard University's Sejong Cultural Society Pre-College Division Sijo Contest. Jade will be awarded $500!

For those unfamiliar with Sijo, the writing style is structured with a specific number of phrases, lines, and syllable counts. The first line establishes the theme, the second line develops that theme, and the third twists and hits with a punchline. Each line averages 14-16 syllables. The entire piece is between 44-46 syllables. Each of the four phrases per line must be within a specific syllable count.
