Talent Showcased with Annual Window Painting | |
'Tis the season for showcasing artistic talent in The Commons. The annual window sketching by grade commenced this week. | |
The sketching was followed up by the traditional window painting. The murals will be left up throughout December, and judges will determine which grade level wins top honors for setup, design, and cleanup. | |

It may not technically be winter yet, but winter sports are back!
Varsity basketball hosts its first game of the season Saturday at 1 p.m. versus St. Dominic.
Indoor Track is in action Sunday afternoon at 3 at Union College.

Middle Schoolers Visit Capital | |

Eight of our middle schoolers paid a visit to the State Capital!
It was part of the YMCA Youth and Government Program, which is designed to allow students grades six through eight to gain a basic understanding of the state legislature. The conference includes a bill writing workshop, parliamentary procedure and debate training.
Holy Names was recognized for Outstanding Research, Outstanding Bill (No. 14) that was passed into law, Outstanding Delegate (Wanjiku Waweru), and Outstanding Debate (Madeline Mead).

Junior Ladies of Charity
Thank you to all who donated canned foods for our Junior Ladies of Charity Thanksgiving drive. We collected just under 200 cans that will be distributed to local food pantries.

Community Christmas
AHN is supporting St. Catherine's Center for Children this year as part of its Christmas Community Service Project.
Anything purchased from the wish list provided will be shipped to Holy Names, and we will have a community wrapping party on Wednesday, December 13 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in The Commons.
We also have a giving tree in our lobby with gift tags for specific items. Please bring the tag to the front office. All items for the giving tree must be returned unwrapped by 12/13.

Toy Drive Competition
Congratulations to Julia Panza and Lexie Cristalli, who collected 70 toys for kids of all ages! It was part of their senior service project in conjunction with Logan Strong Foundation, which helps provide comfort and entertainment to childhood cancer patients and their families. The presents will be delivered this Christmas to patients at Albany Med.
The eighth grade donated the most toys and will enjoy a pizza party!

Attention families, students, faculty and staff: the Festival of the Wreaths is returning this year!
The event will take place during this year's Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m.

Raffle tickets to win the finished wreaths will be available the night of the event.

Holy Names is offering a bus trip to NYC on Saturday, December 16. The trip is open to all alumnae, current students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Bus departs AHN at 8:00 a.m. and drops off at Bryant Park around 11:00 a.m.
- Bus will depart NYC at 8:00 p.m., and return to AHN around 11:00 p.m.
The cost is $60 per person. Registration will be open until December 8.

AHN Welcomes New Teacher, Coach | |
|
Please join us in welcoming Natalia Fernandez, AHN's newest Spanish teacher.
Ms. Fernandez, a native of Argentina, comes to Holy Names with a postgraduate certificate in translation skills from City University in London. She is currently working towards her masters in General Education Studies at the University at Albany.
As lead Spanish teacher at the KIPP Capital Albany Community Charter Middle School, she developed and implemented curriculum for grades six through eight. She also served as a teaching assistant at Christ the King's Early Childhood Center in Guilderland.
Ms. Fernandez will teach Spanish 2 and 3, as well as co-teach Spanish 4 alongside Mr. Cherubino.

We're also welcoming J'Neil Sharpe as coach of the JV basketball team.
Ms. Sharpe, a graduate of the University at Albany, previously served as Head Coach of several teams, including Saratoga Sparks AAU, Dome Elite, and Watervliet modified and JV.
