Christmas Song Contest
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing loud for all to hear." - Buddy the Elf, Elf
The sounds of Christmas filled the Riley Auditorium on Friday for the annual Christmas Song Contest, which saw the ninth-grade class selected as this year's winner.
Thank you to all alumnae in attendance, including Denise Polsinelli ‘74, Stacey Sweeter ‘91, Kristen Healy ‘91, and Carmella Richards ‘74 who served as judges. You can click the image to view the performances on our YouTube channel.

Advent Liturgy
Led by Fr. Bob Longobucco, AHN celebrated its final Liturgy of the season as the pink candle was lit on the advent wreath to mark the third week of Advent. The candle represents the joy and anticipation for Christmas.
| | | |
|
Christmas Sweater Day
It was a sea of holiday cheer for "Christmas Sweater Day" on Thursday. Students, faculty, and staff were able to dress down and wear their most colorful Christmas attire.
| | | |
|
Special Delivery
A shoutout to Grace Kapczynski, who, for her senior service project, organized a winter sale to benefit the Christ Child Society of Albany. She was joined by her sister, Claire.
Students, faculty, and staff were able to buy homemade gifts and cookies as part of this year’s fundraiser.
| | | |
|
Students Complete Jesse Tree
Mrs. Eller's middle school classes just completed their "Jesse Tree" project.
The tree, named after King David's father, is a way of preparing for Advent by journeying through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Students crafted ornaments representing each story, from creation to Jesus's birth.
Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.”

Christmas Around the World
You may know Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day! But do you know how the holiday is celebrated in other parts of the world?
Wanjiku '28 and Victoria '28 put together this bulletin board to help us out!

Student Shares Family Traditions
Sometimes our students do the teaching here at Holy Names!
In sixth- and ninth-grade Spanish this week, Ana '28 volunteered to instruct the class, teaching them about her El Salvadorian heritage (her dad is from the Central American country) and its Christmas traditions.
Students learned about traditional foods (tamales, pupusas, pan con pollo), holiday lights and fireworks celebrations for Navidad -- all occurring on the 24th, not the 25th, as well as the focus of the holiday being more on the birth of Jesus than in the giving of gifts.

|
Middle School Celebrates "Las Posadas"
Our sixth-graders led a special service Monday morning to commemorate Las Posadas.
Las Posadas is celebrated on December 16 in many Latin American countries to mark the journey Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus.
Students read prepared readings and performed a re-enactment for their classmates.

|
Senior Class Trip
Mother Nature couldn’t put a damper on this senior class trip to the Big Apple!
Students visited various sites throughout the city including Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall.

This Week in Athletics
Congratulations to ALL seven AHN fall sports teams (cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, cheer, and volleyball), which have been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association among its 33rd Annual Fall 2024 Scholar-Athlete teams.
NYSPHSAA recognized 4,093 Scholar-Athlete teams this fall. To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%.
Meanwhile, your JV and varsity Panthers have moved to 4-0 on the season after beating Mohonasen on Friday and Schalmont on Tuesday. Friday night's game featured the first appearance of AHN cheer at a basketball home game in nearly 40 years!
The teams play back-to-back home games TONIGHT (alumnae game vs Lansingburgh) and Saturday.
Indoor track heads to HVCC for a meet Saturday morning.

Nearly 2,500 students from around the world shared what they love most about their girls’ schools, and the results are heartening: community, empowerment, agency, and joy.
Curious about what makes girls’ schools so special? Take a look at this incredible artwork illustrated by Jo Byrne of See Your Words that beautifully captures it all!
