Celebrating Black History Month

Senior Kayla Smith, along with her fellow members of the Social Justice Club and Black Student Alliance have been hard at work crafting this new window display in The Commons.



With guidance from Mrs. McSparron and Mrs. Ladouceur, students researched the history of music in the African American community, ranging from ragtime, jazz, and blues to rock and roll, hip hop, and rap. In the coming weeks, samples from each genre will be played during lunch periods.

Au Revoir, Mr. T!

AHN bid a fond farewell Wednesday to Math teacher Mr. Thieffry, who is returning to Nepal with his wife. He spent four years as a teacher there prior to coming to Holy Names.

The couple is expecting their first child, so we gifted them a custom AHN onesie (from our friends at Student Styles).

Seniors Recognized for Service

Senior Kayla Butler, along with Mrs. McSparron attended St. Catherine's Center for Children’s volunteer appreciation dinner at Franklin Plaza on Thursday evening. Kayla, (along with Mia Guiry), organized the AHN Giving Tree for St. Catherine’s as a part of her Senior Service Project. The duo collected approximately 300 tips for the Center.

Grade 6 Completes Lesson on Ancient Egypt

Fresh off their visit to the exhibit at Albany Institute of History & Art, Mrs. Eller’s sixth-graders just wrapped up (mummy pun) their lesson on Ancient Egypt. Students put together reports detailing what they learned, in addition to poster boards, clay Sphinxes and hieroglyphs.

Junior Retreat

It may have been frigid outside, but the temps, the view, and the company were just right inside the Campus Arts Center on Monday for the junior class.



Led by Ms. Moran, along with Ms. Witherspoon, Mrs. McGarry, and members of the senior class, students participated in various activities as part of a day-long retreat. This year’s theme was “Fruits of the Spirit.”

College Information Night

Thank you to Katie Szalda, Siena University's Associate Vice President for Admissions, for leading a College Information Night Wednesday evening in The Commons.

A good crowd was in attendance for the presentation, "What you Should be Thinking About" which was geared toward parents and students in grades 9 and 10.

Don't worry if you weren't able to attend. Families in those grades should check for an email of the presentation from Director of College Counseling, Mrs. McGarry.

Spanish Classes Celebrate Valentine's Day

On Friday, Profesora Fernández and her Spanish III classes celebrated Día de San Valentín by singing a song in Spanish, exchanging Valentines, and making a "candy salad."

Spreading the L.O.V.E.

Love was in the air this week at AHN!

The L.O.V.E. Club held a card-making event in the Library Learning Commons on Wednesday, allowing students to make Valentine's Day cards to brighten the day of local residents at Peregrine Senior Living Delmar Place.

On Friday, students were invited to wear red or pink, and sing Karaoke in the Riley Auditorium during lunch periods as part of a "Galentine's Day" celebration.

P.S. I Love You

Members of SADD wrote positive messages on the windows Thursday ahead of P.S. I Love You Day on Friday, when students were greeted with lollipops.

The day is set aside each year to instill hope in those who struggle with mental illness.



SADD wants you to know they see you and are here for you! They encourage everyone to spread love!

Something to Cheer About

It was a two-for-Tuesday on the homecourt versus La Salle!



JV started things off with a game-winning free throw at the end of regulation from Bella Williams to give the team its second win in as many days after topping South Glens Falls on Monday, and its 8th win of the season.

Varsity followed things up with a 58-45 victory, improving to 13-6 behind Maggie Volmer's 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 blocks. Julia Viglucci hit 5 3-pointers to add 15, and Jeniyah Wood chipped in with 8.

Our sixth-grade CYO team was also victorious this week, topping Niskayuna on Wednesday.

Also, congratulations to the varsity (2nd) and JV (1st) cheer teams for their finishes Saturday in competition at Wolfpack Palooza at Colonie High School! The varsity squad will compete at Broadalbin Perth on Sunday.
