This Week at AHN

Fun with E. Coli (Yes, Really)

Only in Mrs. Baxter's AP Bio classes can E. Coli be used as a learning tool, and a fun one at that!

On Friday, students transformed regular E. coli into glowing E. coli, replicating a process produced by the Aequorea victoria jellyfish.

The experiment, in addition to the interesting outcome, teaches students that genes from all organisms follow a universal code that can be “read” by other organisms. The glowing protein produced is used as a biological marker making it easier to study cells and their functions.

Handcraft Fundraiser

Maggie McAllister '28 sold Tanzanian handcrafts this week to benefit the Love Vision Foundation of Tanzania.
