Benefits of Exam Week

By Principal Margaret Taranto

As we begin our mid-term exam season, I want to reflect on the academic, pedagogical, and emotional benefits of the exam process, and the opportunities for student growth this process fosters.

The exam review process enhances knowledge retention and memory. The process of reviewing and actively retrieving information strengthens neural pathways which make it easier to retrieve that information in the future. It also allows the information to transfer from long-term to short-term memory. The exam review process also encourages students to organize and synthesize information more coherently and see links between different topics and themes.

This Week at AHN

Honoring Dr. King's Legacy

A special prayer service was held Friday morning to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As part of the service, students and staff were asked what dreams they had for themselves, their families, friends, or for the world. Click on the video image to hear their answers.

AHN Dance Showcase

Thank you to the students, performers, and all who made the inaugural AHN Dance Showcase an afternoon to remember!

The event was a celebration of skill, artistry, and community. Thank you to

The School of the Albany Berkshire Ballet, Bethlehem Traditional Irish Dance, and Creative Dance Arts for sharing your dancers’ talents on The Riley Auditorium stage.

We also want to thank Anastasia Welsh '09 for emceeing the event and reminding us all the power of following your passion.

We are proud of our own Holy Names Dance Ensemble who engaged with the audience, sharing their experience participating in dance at AHN.

Pancake Fundraiser

Thank you to all who came to support the varsity basketball squad at the AHN Booster Club pancake breakfast on Sunday at Applebee's Grill + Bar in Latham!

Proceeds from the event will benefit AHN’s athletics program.

Masterminds Teams Improve Records

Congratulations to our JV (4-0) and varsity (3-1) Masterminds teams which improved their records after hosting competition on Monday.

Sphero of Influence

A little tech fun with Mr. Franzini this week as his classes on Wednesday were able to program Sphero robots with their laptops and on Friday race them through an obstacle course and even teach them to play soccer!
