Nothing But Net Results: Basketball Coach's Legacy Extends Off Court
Coach Steve Gigliello, flanked by the Class of 2019: Saniyya Adams, Mackenzie Ward, Skylar Bobersky, Keira Cohen, and Claire Rockwell.
If you’ve been to a Varsity basketball game, chances are you’ve seen Coach Steve Gigliello (pronounced Gig-lee-o) pacing the sidelines. You can tell he wears his heart on his sleeve, although he’s gotten better at showing it in recent years. It’s also in the genes as you might even catch his son wearing a hole in the floor. This family bleeds blue and gold and has for a long time.

Steve has been coaching at Holy Names since 2006-07 – 17 seasons in all, amassing a 269-62 record with eight Colonial Council Championships, but for him, it’s not about the numbers. Read more here.

Art Honors Inauguration Poem
Students in Mrs. Sela's eighth grade Art 1 and AP art classes marked the start of Black History Month a little early this year, commemorating Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb," which she recited at President Biden's Inauguration Day in 2020 at the age of 22.

The art display features each line from the poem broken down and illustrated into more than 50 pieces.

You can view Amanda Gorman's initial recitation of the poem by clicking the link below.
Students Make Blankets for Children in Need
For her senior service project, Maggie Tromp (hiding behind the camera) held a "Blanket Day" event where students made fleece blankets to benefit Project Linus.

With chapters in all 50 states, the non-profit organization collects locally and distributes blankets to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere a child might be in need of a big hug.

Maggie, who received a special shoutout from the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) on their Facebook page, will be holding a similar event again in a few weeks. Keep up the good work!

They all asked smart questions to better prepare themselves in the event of an emergency.

Neurographic Art on Display
Laura Dalton, Maria College Library Aid and Krista Robben, Library Director
Our Admissions and Art departments continue to team up to bring the beauty of Holy Names student art into the community.

"Neurographic art" is now on display at Maria College through the end of February. The medium has its roots in Russia starting in 2014 and is comprised of drawing freeform lines. These are meant to enable the connection between the conscious and unconscious.

If you're a local business owner interested in featuring student art, contact Director of Enrollment Management Wendy Diefendorf.
