AHN Needs Your Vote!

Nominate AHN!

AHN Community: we need your help!

The nomination period is underway for the Times Union's annual "Best of the Capital Region," and we would be most appreciative if you nominated Holy Names in the "Best Private School" category!

Here's how it works:

The five entries that get the most nominations will move on to the voting round.

All you have to do is follow the link to nominate by MONDAY. Thanks for your support!

This Week at AHN

Middle Schoolers Learn Egyptian History

The sixth-grade class got a chance to visit with the "Albany mummies" on Thursday, with a field trip to the Albany Institute of History and Art.

As part of the trip, students toured the museum's Ancient Egypt exhibition, and were able to make their own Shabtis (figurines placed in Egyptian tombs).

For more about the exhibit, click on the video for Vivi's interviews with the Museum's Education Manager and Education Associate.

Lessons in Digital Literacy

Our Digital Literacy students are well on their way to becoming the next generation of computer programmers!

In addition to learning how to program Sphero robots to change colors, move, and even talk, grade 7 students were able to re-create scenes from some of their favorite movies using coding software.

Similarly, grade 8 students were able to do some digital storytelling of their own, learning how to code their own cartoon scenes and make them loop.

Game Cart Returns

The game cart is back! This week middle school students enjoyed playing games during lunch. Do you have any games you no longer need? Donate them to the game cart!

Panthers Updates

Winning Weekend for Panthers

Thank you to all who showed up — many decked out in red — to support this year’s Coaches versus Cancer game for Blood Cancer United!

Shoutout to the event’s organizer, senior Cassie Bellinger, and DJ Ritz Carlton (father of Elizabeth ‘28 and Lily ‘30) for providing a memorable experience. A special tribute was also paid to Todd Henzel (father of junior Abigail).

As icing on the cake for the evening, Holy Names defended the home court against RCS, 45-31, led by Times Union Athlete of the Week Maggie Volmer’s 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Less than 24 hours later, your Panthers continued their winning ways at home! In a nail-biter, the varsity squad topped Mohonasen 67-62 behind Maggie Volmer's 21 points. The Panthers moved to 10-5.

Earlier, the JV team also won its game, 38-25. The teams are back in action at home Friday night starting at 5.

Not to be outdone, our sixth-grade CYO team also was victorious, topping Voorheesville 34-14

Three cheers for our JV and varsity cheer teams, which placed first in competition at Saratoga Springs HS over the weekend!
