Celebrating the Class of 2029

Congratulations, graduates! AHN held its prayer service and graduation ceremony for the eighth grade on Thursday to usher the class on from leaders of the Middle School to first year students in the High School.

The Ceremony included remarks from Class President Ava Tracy and Vice President Fina Cunningham, as well as a special song performance from students to their parents in attendance. Click the images to watch the videos.

Photos from the ceremony can be found in our online gallery.

This Week at AHN

Student Helps Family in Need

McKinley Morehouse '28 recognized a need in her community and took charge!

When she found out a local family lost everything, including their pets in a house fire, she wanted to do something to help. So, McKinley organized and baked for a bake sale, raising more than $200.

She presented the family with the proceeds from the sale on her 15th birthday. Great job, McKinley!

Art Students Work and Play

Ms. Kosek's middle school art classes have spent the past couple weeks making Tic-tac-toe boards, and thanks to some beautiful weather, they were able to head outside to the courtyard to enjoy the fruits of their labor!

Music to our Ears

Sophie Potvin '28 scored a 100 (A+) on her level 6 New York State School Music Association violin solo! A huge accomplishment for any student, this is exceptional for a ninth-grader.

Congratulations, Sophie, your hard work has paid off!

Go to the Head of the Class!

Congratulations to Mr. Allen, who was recently awarded his MA in Philosophy from the University at Albany!

Coding Class Makes Advances

This week in Coding class with Profesora Gibbons, students in various grade levels were able to stretch their metaphorical legs with their Sphero robots, programming them to get a little exercise.

Students took them for walks in the hallway, and even taught them to play a little soccer!

Special Visitors Delight Students

We couldn't possibly end the school year without bringing in some special guests to put some smiles on the faces of the remaining, test-taking students!

So, with a little help from our friends at Roc Dog Capital Region, we had some four-legged visitors (including Bruno, the Burmese Mountain Dog) on Friday who were primed for some belly rubs, much to the delight of everyone here on campus.

A Message for AHN's Juniors and Seniors

From Ms. Leonard

AHN juniors and seniors are filled with fun, promise, and laughter at the end of school depicted in these photographs and beyond. Best wishes for a happy and safe summer!

Winter-Spring Athletes Honored

AHN's annual Winter-Spring Sports Banquet was held on Wednesday at Duo at the Dunes in Albany.

Athletes in indoor/outdoor track, JV and varsity basketball and lacrosse, softball, and fall and winter cheer were honored for their achievements.

Awards ranged from team MVP and Most Improved to acknowledgements for giving "110%."

Special honors were awarded to John O'Sullivan for his dedication to the lacrosse team(s) and keeping our fields in tip-top shape, and to Mr. Franzini for being AHN's "biggest fan."

An additional congratulations goes out to Maeve Joyce, who qualified for the State Meet in both the 1500 and 3000 meter. Round 2 of qualifiers is Friday night.

Successful Glasses Drive

AHN's Multicultural Club wants to thank everyone who has helped out with its glasses drive. So far, more than 100 pairs of old, gently-used prescription glasses have been donated.

They will given to Lions Club International to be restored and donated around the world.

Profesora Gibbons will still be collecting through the end of the school year, so you still have another week if you'd like to drop off a pair.

Before donating, please make sure the glasses are in wearable condition, and they are packaged securely. Thank you!

MM Hayes, Graypoint, J.H. Maloy, Inc., Berkshire Bank, Capital Bank, SNJM, McCarthy Charities, The Warren & Denyse Mackey Foundation, Review Foundation, Inc., the Foy Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Capital Region.

Academy of the Holy Names is pleased to announce its newest supporter of the Partners in Education program: the Carl E. Touhey Foundation.

The Foundation strives to advance equality, particularly for educational opportunities, for racially diverse students who reside in underserved communities in the City of Albany.

AHN is thrilled to have the Touhey Foundation among its corporate and foundational supporters which contribute to the Partners program, which offers tuition support to students wishing to attend but would otherwise be unable to do so.

Your Gift, Your Impact

Holy Names is so grateful to The Warren & Denyse Mackey Foundation and other contributors to the Mackey Scholarship.

As a result of the generosity of contributors and a matching gift from the Mackey Foundation, AHN will be able to offer a $10,000 scholarship to a deserving black student attending during the 2025-26 school year.
