Congratulations, graduates! AHN held its prayer service and graduation ceremony for the eighth grade on Thursday morning in front of a packed Riley Auditorium to usher the class on from leaders of the Middle School to first year students in the High School.

The Ceremony included remarks from Class President Sophie Wilson and Vice President Maggie McAllister, a presentation of gifts from students to the school, as well as to their parents in attendance.

There were also special musical selections, including ABBA's "Slipping Through My Fingers" performed by Maggie McAllister, Louisa Pero, and Lena Olshan, and Kanye West's "Runaway" on the piano by Ana Guerra. Click the links to watch both on our YouTube channel.

Photos from the ceremony can be found in our online gallery.

"Science has the power to change lives." - Abby White '20.

Abby, joined by her best friend and fellow AHN Class of 2020 graduate Stefania Bonanni, were special guests of Mrs. Baxter in her AP Bio class Wednesday.

The pair spoke of their love of science and how AHN prepared them well for their collegiate journeys: Abby just graduated from Harvard College, where she was studying Integrative Biology on a pre-med track. She'll be heading to Brown University in the fall for her masters in Medical Science. Stefania just graduated from Fordham University majoring in Bio Sciences, and is about to start her PhD in Biology at Boston College.

We welcome them home, and thank them for taking time to answer questions about STEM and the college application process. They are great examples of how the bonds forged at Holy Names last a lifetime.

This Week at AHN

Our final prayer service of the school year was held on Monday.

This one was led by the eighth grade class.

Students spent their Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in The Commons this week making cards to send birthday wishes and/or brighten someone's day.

The cards will be delivered to Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

Grade eight students were decked out in their Sunday finest -- on a Wednesday -- for the traditional luncheon held each year ahead of graduation.

The group rehearsed for its big day, shared a meal and watched a movie.

Friday Field Trip

Grades six and seven headed to Massachusetts on Friday to visit Old Sturbridge Village, the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast.

OSV depicts a rural New England town of the early 19th century.

Outdoor Track Has Strong Showing at Sectionals

Congratulations to the outdoor track team on strong finishes at sectionals on Friday.

Notable results:

  • Summer Reinoehl (Personal best, 1500m)

Summer Project Preview

This year's Spring Gala paddle raise focused on the completion of the Learning Commons in the library, which will be a reimagined space that acknowledges the ways in which our 21st century students study, collaborate, relax, and advance their learning experience at Holy Names.

Gifts from ALLINforAHN will go to increase and upgrade our cardio and

strength training capacity and expand access to fitness opportunities for all students.

Our current training room will be turned into a modern cardio fitness center, and a rarely-used storage space will be converted into a multi-level strength training room.

Thanks to a generous donation from retiring Board of Trustees member Jack Maloy, P '03, '13, we will be extending the breezeway sidewalk in the front of the building, creating a safer approach for students and faculty to enter the building during drop-off and pickup times.

The Art of Giving

Led by Cindy Pettit '78, members of Key Bank took part in the organization's annual "Neighbors Make a Difference Day" here on the AHN Campus. The group spent Friday cleaning inside the Campus Arts Center which is frequently used for student and community productions.
