This Week at AHN

Catholic Sisters Week

This week marked the culmination of Catholic Sisters Week (March 8-14)!

For generations, Catholic Sisters have been breaking barriers, advocating for justice, leading in education and healthcare, and fostering spiritual growth. Their presence in communities—both past and present—has been a source of strength, hope, and transformation.

For that, we want to thank our Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

You can read more about Sr. Karyl in the latest edition of EQV Magazine available online at ahns.org.

International Women's Day

A special prayer service was held Monday in commemoration of International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is "Accelerate Action," a push to forge gender equality together in a world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Mock Trial

Led by Mr. Franzini, the Mock Trial team competed this week at the Albany County Supreme Court. The case: defamation of libel toward a public figure. On Tuesday against Albany High School, AHN played the role of the plaintiff. On Thursday versus The Albany Academies, AHN won its case on the defense. The team now advances to the next round of competition on April 3.

A special thanks goes out to Support Magistrate Jennifer Corona '88 (mother of Meara Sweet '26) and the Honorable Ryan McAllister (father of Maggie '28) who served as team coaches, as well as Ms. Schwartz who provided assistance for team.

Celebrating Lesson Completion

Grade six just completed its lesson on Ancient China, so Mrs. Eller decided a special treat was in order.

The students got to practice using their chopsticks with a meal including Lo Mein, Crab Rangoon, and spring rolls!

Happy Birthday, PantherVision!

It's been one year to the day of our very first broadcast, and we've come a long way since then. We've been able to move from one to two anchors, enhance our graphics, and add pre-recorded segments from students and clubs, including the addition of "Panther Sports Nation" with big game previews.

We're still learning and expanding our capabilities, but our roster of participating students continues to grow, and we're just getting started! We look forward to providing more opportunities for students to practice their public speaking, and learn more about writing, technical directing, and all the fun things that go into making a broadcast.

As we say in our sign off, "Thank you, and go Panthers!"

Celebrating Pi Day with Pie

Happy Pi Day! In honor of the mathematical constant 3.14, AHN's Math Department offered various activities throughout the week, including:

  • a “Coloring Pi” contest in The Commons,
  • a “Name the Mathematician” contest outside The Commons,
  • a Math Problem of the Day in Miss Meg’s room, and
  • completing 1,000 digits of Pi in the senior hallway.

Last but not least, students were able to buy raffle tickets during lunch, and three winners were able to hit a math teacher in the face with a pie! Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the purchase of custom shirts for the Masterminds team. Click the video to watch.

Budding Meteorologists

The forecast in Mrs. Rose’s classroom Friday called for lessons in meteorology!

The sixth-grade class learned all about weather tools, from how they gauge rainfall and measure temperature as well as relative humidity, air pressure, and wind speed.

CBA Open House

Thank you to our always wonderful ambassadors for representing Holy Names at Thursday’s Christian Brothers Academy Open House!

Kosek's Art on Display

Our very own Art teacher Ms. Kosek is featured in the new "Formative Expressions" exhibit at the Jane Altes Gallery in Troy.

The exhibit, which runs through April 6, is presented by The Arts Center of the Capital Region. It showcases artists who explore the dynamic interplay between geometry and fluid, organic forms.

A reception is scheduled to be held on March 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gallery.
