Taranto Named New Principal
From Dr. Martin Kilbridge
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Margaret Taranto as the next Principal of Academy of the Holy Names. Mrs. Taranto succeeds Michele Musto, who is retiring after 32 years of service to Holy Names.
We had highly qualified candidates apply from around the country and closer to home. In the end, we found the right person among our own ranks.

The Diocese of Albany Bankruptcy: What Does it Mean for Academy of the Holy Names?
From Dr. Martin Kilbridge
This week the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany announced it is filing for bankruptcy. We write to reassure you the bankruptcy will not have a financial impact on Academy of the Holy Names.
Holy Names is an independent Catholic school sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and governed by a Board of Trustees. We have no operational or financial connection to the Albany diocese.
With a compelling mission and a dedicated faculty and staff, Academy of the Holy Names remains committed to protecting and nurturing competent, confident, and compassionate young women.

AHN Teams up with Mathnasium for Art Display
The latest installment of AHN's ongoing Travelling Art Show: a partnership with Mathnasium in conjunction with Math Week. Under the direction of Art Teacher, Dana Sela, and Director of Enrollment Management, Wendy Diefendorf, the show includes exhibits of student art and showings at a variety of local organizations and businesses.
“I do a lot of math in AP Art now to get dimensions and proportions accurate. In math, a lot of times when I am tutoring it makes more sense to draw pictures of the word problems, and it helps kids understand,” said Allie Lasch, a Senior who works at Mathnasium’s Loudonville location.

Another week, another chance at fabulous prizes IF the answer is right. This week students commemorated Math Week. Each day, a new Sudoku puzzle was made available for students to solve. And that's not all!
In conjunction with Women's History Month, portraits and stories were available of influential women in mathematics.
Students were also given "pi paper" to correctly guess the number of candies in the jar to win it! Stephanie Monroy was only one off the total of 172!
Decorating a pi sheet entered students for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. Congratulations to 7th graders Samantha Reilly (2nd Place) and Rosalie Patton (1st, pictured) for their winning submissions.
Special "Pi Day" pie was made in The Commons for 3/14 (on 3/15 thanks to the snow storm).
Last but not least, there was an SAT question of the day.

It was a sea of gold and green for a special St. Patrick's Day pep rally for our Middle School students.
Games were played, candy was distributed, and the coveted "Spirit Stick" was awarded to the green team for their spirit, though the gold team was equally deserving.

During winter break, Campus Minister Theresa Moran, along with Theology Teacher Bernadette McSparron, and former Associate Head of School Dr. Phyllis Morrison visited the U.S.-Mexico border.
During a special in-service day, faculty and staff learned about the plights of migrants the trio encountered during their stay at Sacred Heart Parish in El Paso. There they visited shelters, met with religious and lay ministers as well as border patrol agents.
