Holy Names Creates Lasting Legacy for Trio of Sisters
For Mary Alice Conners Morgan ’57, Margaret ‘Peg’ Conners Harrington ’62, and Maureen Conners ’64, Academy of the Holy Names is more than just a school, or a building filled with adolescent memories. For them, it’s a legacy. We sat down with the sisters who visited their alma mater for a tour.
Alumna's Work with Juveniles Makes Headlines

Joan Lipscomb Arthurton '87, a teacher at Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility, is doing her part to help more students graduate. Her efforts have landed her in the Times Union. Follow the link to read her story.

Schoenborn Honored with YWCA Service Award
Congratulations to ninth-grader Ella Schoenborn, recipient of the "Young Excellence Award" at this year's YWCA NENY 2023 Empowerment Awards.

The awards are presented to remarkable individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in their community involvement and serve as role models, empowering others through the leadership qualities they exhibit. Ella was recognized for her work with ProjectElla.

Ella was also recently a guest on the National Catholic Educational Association podcast "Start Small, Dream Big, Serve Others" along with other recipients of the NCEA Youth Virtues, Valor and Vision Awards.
Continuous Enrollment Contract Due Next Friday
Attention Families:

As you are aware, AHN is implementing a continuous enrollment contract. Once you sign the contract, you will not be asked to sign contracts for future years.

The deadline to sign the 2023-24 contract is NEXT FRIDAY, MARCH 31.

New Admissions Exam Dates Available
Due to increased demand, more admissions testing opportunities have been made available for prospective students.

The exam serves as a scholarship qualifying exam as well as assists with student placement. High scoring students can earn between 1/4 and 1/2 tuition awards.

Upcoming exam dates include:

Saturday, April 22, and
Saturday, May 13.

Arrival time for both is 8:15 a.m. For parents, there will also be coffee, conversation and tours available with school administrators.
High School Career Day
On Tuesday, March 28, AHN will host a career fair for high school students from 8 a.m. to noon featuring women-owned businesses and career areas ranging from law and communications to health care, engineering, and finance.

The keynote speaker will be certified life/career coach Miranda VonFricken.
Curtain Call: Get Your "Annie" Tickets
Tickets for this weekend's musical, "Annie," are on sale now! You can purchase online or at the door.

There are three performances scheduled:

·        TONIGHT at 7
·        SATURDAY NIGHT at 7
·        SUNDAY at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children five and under.

PLUS: Special Guest Star Mr. Franzini as FDR!

Student Art on Display
Starting this week, you can view works from our very own Makayla Mackey, Caroline Brown, and Maggie Seymour on display at the Albany Center Gallery.

The selections are part of the 24th Annual High School Regional Juried Exhibition, featuring the work of regional high school students.

They will be on display through April 22.
Mackey Awarded Regeneron Scholarship
Congratulations to senior Makayla Mackey, who took home a $750 scholarship at the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair.

She participated along with classmates Hafsa Khan, Kate Regan, and Castine Hardesty under the direction of teacher Andrew Licari.

Makayla won the Regeneron George Yancopoulus Award for demonstrating the most creativity in improving or identifying health issues for her project regarding iron deficiency in heart failure patients.

Each of the students will also present their research at this year's AHN Science Research Symposium on April 27. 
Science Learning Made Fun
It was a tale of two (science) classrooms on Thursday. In Mr. Baxter's Physics lab, students were modeling wave action with everyone's favorite toy fit for a girl or a boy, the Slinky!

And in Mr. Licari's class, students were studying super-saturation.
Middle School Fundraiser

Home Stretch for Reading Fundraiser
Mrs. Taranto and her middle school classes need your help! They're reading through the end of March to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, and have formed a fundraising team. Follow the link for more on how you can support their efforts.
Murphy Marches with Heroes
On St. Patrick's Day, Junior Kathleen Murphy attended the Parade mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City with her uncle Major Dermot Gavin, part of the Fighting 69th Regiment - The Fighting Irish. After, Kathleen and her cousins marched up 5th Ave with them, leading the parade holding the Fighting 69th Banner. Thank you for your service, Major Gavin, and way to go Kathleen!
Reservations Still Available for Father-Daughter Dinner Dance
The Annual Father-Daughter Dinner Dance hosted by the Home School Association (HSA) will be held on Friday, April 21 at Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany.

All students and their fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and/or special friends are invited to this celebration. There will special recognition of seniors and their fathers.

Online registration will be open until April 3.
Spring Gala RSVP Deadline Extended
Academy of the Holy Names invites you to celebrate its Spring Gala on Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Albany - Desmond Hotel in Albany

We will be honoring Michele Musto, who is retiring after 32 years, and her husband, Dr. Ron Musto, as well as Cindy Haselsteiner Pettit '78 for their unwavering support and dedicated service.

There will be live entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a super cash raffle. Karen Tararache of Spectrum News will serve as MC.

The RSVP deadline has been extended. Please respond by WEDNESDAY, March 29.

Bring a Friend to School Day
Thursday, April 20 is "Bring a Friend to School Day" at Holy Names.

Students in grades 6 and 9 can bring along a friend for the day to experience what AHN has to offer.

Summer Camp Sign-Ups Available
Sign-ups are now available online for our annual summer camps! We're offering four programs, all led by educational experts with a focus on fun and learning.

We will also soon be offering four sports clinics for soccer, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.

Raising Water Awareness
AHN and the Environmental Club are commemorating #WorldWaterDay. This year's theme is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.

The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM) have also taken a corporate stand to promote universal access to drinking water, especially for vulnerable populations. You can learn more about it via the link provided.
