PantherVision Spotlighted on Local News

CBS6's morning anchor Julia Dunn paid a special visit to our PantherVision studio.

Not only did she serve as a guest co-anchor for morning announcements, but she featured PantherVision and its crew as part of her weekly segment, "Positively Upstate." Click on the image to watch the story.

Lacore '86 Appointed to Vice Admiral

We congratulate Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore '86 on being appointed to the grade of Vice Admiral, with assignment as Chief of Navy Reserve, N095, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

The appointment was announced Friday morning by Albany County Executive Dan McCoy.

McCoy says Vice Admiral Lacore "exemplifies the values of hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance."

Lacore spoke to students earlier this school year. Follow the link to watch highlights from her address.

Wilson Calls it a Career

Rod Wilson, Academy of the Holy Names Director of Buildings and Grounds, has announced he will retire at the end of this academic year after 23 years of service to the school. His last day is June 14. Succeeding him will be Chris Wilson, who was brought on to the Buildings and Grounds team a year ago.

Our friend Rod oversaw many facilities upgrades during his tenure, including, but not limited to the construction of the Bell Tower, and the additions of the gymnasium and St. Joseph’s Hall. He says his proudest achievement, though, was watching his granddaughter, Elizabeth ’20, graduate.

Chris has been mentored for the position as successor to his father for the past year. He came to Holy Names with vast experience as a licensed electrician and business owner. He received his bachelor's degree in human resources and his master's degree in business administration from the University of Maine. Chris has a mechanic certification and enjoys sound engineering. He says he’s looking forward to putting those resources to work for the school and living up to the high standards and years of dedication and devotion given by his father.

This Week at AHN

May is a celebratory month in the Catholic Church, and our middle schoolers participated in the time-honored tradition of the May Crowning on Monday. Our courtyard statue was adorned with a floral crown, symbolizing Mary as the Queen of Heaven and Mother of God.

Our seniors celebrated College Admissions Day this week.

Each student wore a shirt representing the college or university which they will be attending in the fall, ranging from Syracuse, Colgate, and Villanova to Siena, NYU, and South Carolina.

"Who's Afraid of a Cheap Old House," from Associate Producer Ann Marie Lizzi '87 premiered this week on HGTV.

The show will run for seven weeks. Filming took place in and around the greater Capital Region and features inspirational transformations of properties 100 years or older in Albany, Menands, Troy, Granville, Cambridge, Whitehall, Sharon Springs and Worcester.

Thank you to Dr. Tom Patton, father of Rosalie father and uncle of Emma L. who stopped by to offer a presentation on Buddhism to our Senior Theology classes.

A packed house was on hand to enjoy the sounds of AHN's annual Spring Concert, featuring performances by the Middle School Chorus, the High School Choral Ensemble, and an instrumental solo from junior Riley S. Visit our YouTube page to watch the full performances.

Congratulations to Michelle Mahon '99 on completing her term as president of The Junior League of Albany! She's seen here with fellow league members and AHN alumnae, the Astemborski family: Courtney '10, Dina (Zandri) '79, and Kendra '07.

Mental Health Awareness Month

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and School Counselor Mrs. Jacob-Zysman organized some fun activities for middle school students to help promote positive mental health outcomes.

Grade six students showed off their mindfulness by making glitter bottles, and grade seven students got to make their own stress balls!
