29th Annual Science Symposium
The 29th Annual Holy Names Science Research Symposium was held Thursday, led by Mr. Licari.
It was an opportunity for students to present the results of a three-year program in which they choose the area to focus their research.
These ranged from the effects of menopause and a high fat diet on adult hippocampal neurogenesis (which plays a key role in cognitive functions like memory) to the impacts of probiotics and meditation on gut symptoms.
Four students in all presented, including seniors Riley Schmitz and Patsy Whalen, and juniors Shaya Gerber and Cece Zyskowski.

Barbie Takes the Plunge
What do Barbie and math have in common? We're so glad you asked!
This week in Mr. Zaccardo's class, students learned about linear regression and the "line of best fit."
So, naturally, the best way to measure this was with rubber bands and Barbie dolls, sending them "bungee jumping." Students were given height measurements and had to calculate how many rubber bands it would take so Barbie would come within two inches of the floor.

Pep Rally
It was a dress down day of sorts for the high school's spring Pep Rally this year as we honored our seniors.
The theme was "dressings," so each class represented a different salad topper. For example, ranch = western-themed.
Games from musical chairs to a water-balloon fight were played, and good times were had by all.
As an added bonus this year, Dr. Kilbridge participated in the newly-revived Ice Bucket Challenge to promote mental health awareness. Click the video to watch.

This Week in Athletics
It's a good week to be a Panther!
Softball won its fourth straight game with a big comeback in the bottom of the 7th on Wednesday. Juliana Conboy sealed the team's 16 hit effort with a walk-off homer. Conboy added another homer on Thursday, however the team's win streak would be snapped.
JV Lacrosse topped Emma Willard 16-4.
In Outdoor track, the Panthers had several first place finishes, including Maeve Joyce in the 300m, 800m, and 1500m (a time ranked 15th in the nation!), Morgan Brewer in the 400m, and Georgia Boggs in the triple and long jump. Anna Wasula took first in Shot Put and Riley Sanford in the Pole Vault. Ana Guerra placed second in the 800 and the 4x8 relay also took second.
