AHN to Host Annual Network of Schools Meeting

By Dr. Martin Kilbridge

Academy of the Holy Names will be hosting the annual Network of Holy Names Schools from October 22 to 24. Presidents, principals, and other representatives from across the country and Canada will gather to discuss our common mission and share strategies for guiding our institutions. Principal Taranto and I are looking forward to this visit from our well-known friends.

This Week at AHN

Sixth-Grader Makes Donation

A shoutout to sixth-grader Scarlett, who set up a booth at the RCS Craft Fair and decided to donate her proceeds to AHN’s Booster Club!

She met with Club representatives Mrs. Gallo and Mrs. LaBoissiere on Tuesday. Way to go, Scarlett, and thank you for supporting AHN’s athletic programs!

"Day for Doing Good"

Thank you to Courtney Astemborski '10 and the rest of the crew from Regeneron, who painted approximately 80 folding chairs on campus Friday. The team included several other alumnae: Stacey Sweeter '91, Melanie Murphy '05, and Keira Cohen '19.

The group visited AHN as part of Regeneron's "Day for Doing Good," which involves thousands of employees each year supporting a variety of organizations. The newly-painted chairs will be used in The Riley Auditorium.

Pep Rally

Whether it be winter, spring, summer, or fall, we love them all! High school students showed off their creativity on Friday, as each class dressed up to represent a different season for the fall Pep Rally.

The festivities began with a rousing performance by AHN's cheer squad! You can click the video to watch.

A variety of games were played, as is tradition, and in the shock of the decade, it was the junior class that emerged victorious!

The sophomores were declared the most enthusiastic and were granted a dress down day from Principal Taranto.

Thank you to Mrs. Ladouceur and the Pep Club for organizing the event.

Classroom Crossover

Mrs. Franchini Potocki '14, AHN's World History, Religions, and Economics teacher, paid a visit to Mr. Licari's Chemistry lab on Thursday.

There, she spoke with students about her experience with AHN's Science Research Program: the three-year program in which students choose the area to focus their research, which culminates with presentations at AHN's annual Science Research Symposium.

Mrs. Potocki's research when she was a student -- which ended up being published -- focused on the rabies virus in silver-haired bats.

Students Needed for Religious Education

Are you a student in need of service hours? Sabrina Masilotti is looking for volunteers to help teach Sunday school at Saint Pius in Loudonville to kids in grades K through 5. Email her for more information!

Seniors Collecting Stuffed Animals, Dolls

As part of their senior service project, Sophia and Kate are looking to improve the quality of life of senior residents at Glendale Nursing Home!

Studies show stuffed animals and dolls provide a comforting object to hold, which can have a calming effect, particularly on dementia patients. They can also help foster connections with caregivers.

A donation box will be available in the lobby.

Prospective Students and Families Invited

We are extending a special invitation to prospective students and their families to join our admissions team and the rest of the AHN community for "Dig Pink" on Tuesday, October 21 and support our volleyball teams as they help raise breast cancer awareness.
