This Week at AHN

Called to Belong

You are stronger than you know.

You are more beautiful than you imagine.

YOU ARE LOVED.

That was the message for Thursday's Senior Liturgy, delivered by Fr. Bob Longobucco, echoing this year's school theme of belonging.

As is tradition, the senior class was presented with gifts throughout the morning from their schoolmates, including their class sweatshirts (Fr. Bob received his own as well).

Blessings upon the Class of 2026!

Adventures at Camp Chingachgook

Led by Mrs. Eller and Mrs. Rose, it was a day filled with adventure for our eighth-graders on their first big field trip of the year!

Thanks to our friends at Camp Chingachgook for a fun day of canoeing, bow-and-arrow lessons, rock climbing and more!

BBQ Fundraiser

Thanks to our friends at Metro 7 Diner for helping with today’s “Smokin’ BBQ Fundraiser!”

Mother Nature couldn’t put a damper on the event, as a long line of hungry families awaited their pre-ordered meals.

Proceeds from the event will benefit AHN students heading to the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC).

Q&A with Students

On Friday, Profesora Fernández's Spanish III students visited Spanish II classes to answer any questions they may have about what's in store for them next year.

Topics covered included how it feels moving up a level, speaking Spanish in front of a class, and how to react to making mistakes.

From L to R: Albany County Legislature Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham, AHN Principal Margaret Taranto, AHN Director of Institutional Advancement Kristin Vivian P'14 '17, Albany County Legislature Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham, and Albany County Legislator Raymond Joyce.

AHN Receives Anti-Bullying Grant

AHN is the beneficiary of new grant funding courtesy of Albany County.

The Albany County Legislature, in conjunction with the Albany County Department of Mental Health, Albany County Department of Children, Youth and Families and the Albany County Executive’s Office made available $100,000 in funding to support anti-bullying and youth violence prevention programming.

At AHN, that programming will feature "Sweethearts & Heroes," which offers assemblies designed to cultivate a positive school environment and address broader school-based issues.

The assemblies focus on building a supportive atmosphere that fosters networks of support, belonging, and a strong sense of school community.

The assembly is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, followed by peer leadership training in the spring.

Deduction Laws to Change in 2026

Consider Increasing Your Gifts to AHN in 2025

Gifts made to AHN are a charitable tax deduction. New legislation caps the tax benefits of itemized charitable deductions at 35%, even for those in the 37% marginal tax bracket. In other words, these high-income filers donating $1,000 would receive a $350 deduction instead of the current $370.

This change goes into effect in the 2026 tax year. Donors in higher tax brackets who are considering a significant philanthropic gift may want to think about accelerating their gift to 2025 to maximize their deduction under the current marginal rate before the new cap goes into effect.
