Mizell Senior Center provides over 145,000 Meals on Wheels throughout the Coachella Valley every year.  Summer is very difficult.  With temperatures sometimes reaching 120 degrees, frail, homebound seniors depend on this program in order to eat.  During the Summer months, donations for this program are few and far between . . . but, we still are preparing and serving meals for 500 - 600 seniors each day from Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs to the Salton Sea over 7 delivery routes.  Our clients need your help and support.  Take a look at the video . . . this is who we serve and who you support with your generous donation.  Won't you please help??  We need funding now in order to make sure we can continue serving thousands of meals throughout our long, hot Summer.  Please donate today!!

Staying Save on the Internet and Facebook
Learn How to Protect Your Privacy and Avoid Internet Scams
 
Are you concerned about your privacy when using the internet?  Do you want to learn how to avoid internet scams?  We have the class for you.  Join us on Tuesday, June 27 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM in the Behrend Computer Learning Center for this informative class. Instructor Tammy Searle willshow you haw to navigate the Internet and Facebook in a safe way.  she will also show you why Facebook is both fun AND dangerous.  You will learn how to set your privacy settings on Facebook, and useful safety tips for Internet use. Instructions will include:  Creating strong passwords and using a secured browser as well as protecting your data, safety guidelines for the Internet and how to set your security settings on Facebook.  Your devices are not needed for this class, but you are welcome to bring them to ask questions at the end of instruction.  Cost for this class is $35.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members.  Be sure to reserve your space early as seating is limited.  You can make your reservation at the Mizell Ticket Window or by calling 760-323-5689 x107.
Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's) in Adults - What You Should Know  - A Live Healthy Seminar
 
Join Ann Stapleton, MD Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases for this informative seminar:  Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's) in Adults - What You Should Know on Thursday, June 29th at 12:30PM at Mizell Senior Center. Dr. Stapleton will provide an informative Seminar update on what causes UTI's, how to determine if you have one, how you may be able to prevent them and treatments for UTI's.  Chances are good that you, a friend or a loved one have had a urinary tract infection (UTI), since this is one of the most common infections encountered in adult women and men. Making the Most of Your i-Pad and i-Phone
A New Class in the Behrend Computer Learning Center

If you have a new i-Pad or i-Phone and want to learn how to use it, we have the class for you.  Join instructor Tammy Searle on Monday, June 26 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM in the Behrend Computer Learning Center for this informative class.  Tammy will show you easy short-cuts, added features and useful updates from iOS 10.  She will also show you how to integrate these new features into your daily lives. Useful tips will include how to sync to iCloud, sharing photos, downloading apps, creating calendar appointments, phone call and messaging settings and much more!  A quick review of Apple TV, music Match is also included.  Your devices are not need at this class, but you are welcome to bring them to ask questions at the end of the instruction.  The cost of the class is $35.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members.  To reserve you place, visit the Mizell ticket window or call 760-323-5689 x107.
Bingo Mondays at Mizell
The Hottest Bingo Game In Town - Win Prizes and Cash!!
 
Monday at Mizell Senior Center is the place to be if you love playing Bingo Card Bingo.  Card sales begin at Noon with the Early Bird Game at 12:50PM. Mizell Bingo features 10 regular Bingo games along with special games that include Triple Bingo, Double Action, Odd Coverall, and Even Coverall.  Games continue until 4:00PM. You can win great prizes and even cash in our games! So, grab your favorite dauber and put on your Bingo Shoes and get on over to Mizell for our Monday Bingo. It's also a great way to stay cool during the hot summer months. Cost is $7.00 for a set of 10 sheets (6 Bingo Cards per sheet) and $12.00 for a set of 10 sheets for non-members. 
Mizell Lunch Club
June Lunch Club is at Pepper's Thai Cuisine in Palm Springs
 
The popular Mizell Lunch Club's next meeting is on Wednesday, June 28th  at 11:30AM at the Palm Springs favorite: Pepper's Thai Cuisine located at 396 N. Palm Canyon Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. The Mizell Lunch Club visits a new restaurant every month. Mizell members, visitors, volunteers, and family members are all welcome to attend. this is a great way to try a new restaurant and meet new friends. Please call the Mizell Ticket Window at 760-323-5689 x107 to reserve your spot. We will need your reservation by June 26th. Each person is responsible for paying their own bill and gratuity. Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
Voucher Distribution for Use at Certified Farmer's Markets
 
Riverside County Office on Aging will be distributing Senior Farmer's Market Vouchers at Mizell Senior Center on Friday, June 30 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on a first come, first served basis.  The coupons are for use at Certified Farmer's Markets only and only for the purchase of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown, fruits, vegetables, honey and edible herbs.  Seniors must certify they are over age 60 and meet the following low income guidelines:  1 person household $21,775 per year - 2 person household $29,471 per year or 3 person household of $37,167 per year.  For questions, contact the Riverside County Office on Aging at 1-800-510-2020.

Join the Mizell Cover to Cover Book Club on Thursday, July 13 at 10:30AM for Life From Scratch by Sasha Martin.  Her life's a mess. Mizell Documentary Film Salon Presents
Art of the Western World - Into the 20th Century
 
The Mizell Senior Center Documentary Film Salon is presenting Michael Wood's Art of the Western World -Into the 20th Century on Wednesday, June 28th at 12:30PM at Mizell. When rapid advances in science, thought, and technology led to the secessionists, fauves, and cubists - Dada rejected everything, and architecture went international.  this film features Klimt, Matisse, Picasso, Mondrian, Frank Lloyd Wright and other luminaries of the 20th Century. This series is one of the finest treatments of Western Art and Art History that is available in multimedia with Michael Woods as host and guide. It is a series that appeals to both experienced art historians, and persons who want an introduction to art history. Jazz/Jam Session on Wednesdays at Mizell

Do you enjoy listening to some of the classic Jazz and Dance Music Jazz Notes from the Golden Age of Music?  Are you a retired musician, but still like to play your instrument, but don't know where to go? Whether you are a  listener or player, the Jazz/Jam Session at Mizell Senior is the place to be.  Join Dick Broadie and Friends to listen or play every Wednesday morning starting at 10:00AM.  If you play, don't worry if you are a bit "rusty". This is a great place to meet new friends and play your favorite instrument and enjoy the music.  Do you like dancing?  This is also the place for you.  So, come on down and listen, dance or Jam with the Jazz/Jam session at Mizell . . . you will be glad you did.  Cost is FREE for Mizell Members and $5.00 for guests.
Saturday Zumba Gold at Mizell

Zumba fever is going strong at Mizell Senior Center.  In fact, it has Zumba Gold become so popular, we are continuing our Saturday Class from 9:00AM to 10:00AM, you can get your weekend exercise at Mizell. Our weekday Zumba Gold classes will continue to meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00AM to 9:50AM. Ditch the workout . . . and join in the Party!! Zumba Gold is an aerobics interval class using Latin-based rhythms and other dance-inspired tempos to create a fun up-beat workout. It's a cardio party!! Let the rhythm of Latin music shake your body and burn unwanted calories while losing pounds and inches.  All Fitness levels are welcome. Aunt Betty's Attic is truly the Best Little Thrift Store in the Valley and we need your donations of Summer wear for the upcoming Summer season. We are also looking for housewares, books, newer electronics, kitchen gadgets, and Vintage/Collectibles. You can drop-off your donations at the Mizell front desk.  We will also help you unload your car.  We will even go to your home to pick up larger items or large quantities of items.  To make a donation, call our store manager, Sandy Milder at 760-323-5689 x111. Located within the Mizell Senior Center building, the store features some of the best deals you will find in any other thrift store. Aunt Betty's is open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. We also have donations of high-end designer clothing such as Brooks Brothers, Gucci, Michael Kors, Liz Claiborne, and Chico's just to name a few.  We also feature household items, artwork, glassware, small appliances . . . and so much more.  You will have to stop by regularly because we are always featuring new stock and items sell fast.  We also accept donations.  All proceeds from sales at Aunt Betty's Attic support our Valley-wide Meals on Wheels program and other programs and services at Mizell Senior Center.
Lunch at Cafe 480
 
Have you tried lunch at Mizell's Cafe 480? You can now enjoy our Lunch Setting improved menu freshly cooked each day at Mizell.  Our Program through the Riverside County Office on Aging is for those ages 60 and above. You only need to complete a simple enrollment form. Rather than charging $5.00 for lunch we are suggesting a donation of $3.00. Your donation will help ensure continued High Quality Lunches and service to more people. You can still enjoy the best lunch deal in the area and then participate in one of our many programs.  Lunch is $5.00 for those under age 60 or those not wishing to fill out the required information form. Here is the menu for next week: 
Monday:  Cheese Ravioli w/Marinara Sauce, Broccoli, Garlic Bread, Dessert
Tuesday:   Chicken & Rice Casserole, Green Salad, Wheat Roll, Dessert

Movie Graphic June Movies will wrap Natalie Wood Month continuing with Inside Daisy Clover this week  Stay Tuned for Gregory Peck Month in July. Our movie of the week series has become an all time favorite for members. So be sure to relax and enjoy a movie and while taking in a movie.  Mizell Senior Center is seeking a sponsor for our Movie of the Week. This is a great opportunity to help market your business. Join In With This Active Social Club
 
Widows and Widowers meets every Monday at Mizell Senior Center at WOW Illustration 10:00AM.  This active Social Club is for individuals who are ready to begin exploring new opportunities in life.  In addition to the weekly meetings at Mizell, the group often meets for lunch, pot-lucks and outings to remain active and social.  There are also two happy hour mixers each month on the second and fourth Wednesday at various locations. The Laughter Clinic Continues at Mizell
Laughter is the Best Medicine
 
The Laughter Clinic is returning to Mizell on Tuesday, June 27th at 5:30PM.  Have fun and get in a laugh or two during these two hour classes. Whether you're guffawing at a sitcom on TV or quietly giggling at a newspaper cartoon, laughing does you good. Laughter is a great form of becoming healthier and happier . . . and that is no joke!! According to the Mayo Clinic, Laughter can stimulate many organs, relax you, and reduce stress.  It can even strengthen your immune system and relieve pain and anxiety. Join Jonathan Goldman of "The Improv Oasis" for The Laughter Clinic and join in the fun! Start beginning to explore your inner creativity and spontaneity. Improvisation opens your imagination and promotes the making of positive choices. Learn skills for enhancing your awareness and ability to handle life's situations by playing games in a supportive environment.  Come play, learn, and have fun!! Cost is $7.00 for members paid in advance and $10.00 for non-members per class or paid at the door. Improve My Balance - New Classes & Schedule
Keep Up Your Exercise and Help Prevent a Devastating Fall
 
Check out the new class schedule for Improve My Balance.  During the Summer months, the Wednesday class will be combined with our Tuesday afternoon exercise class for a Tuesday afternoon Improve My Balance class.  Do you find it difficult to stand for a long period of time? Is your balance less than it used to be?  Do you tire easily by performing a simple task? Then join us for our one hour intensive balance and coordination class taught by Dr. Marc Eisman, D.C. and Stephen Matthews, D.C. This class uses specialized equipment and methods based on evidence based programs that are globally recognized.  Improve My Balance Classes meet Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:00AM to 10:45AM and Tuesday afternoons from 4:00PM to 4:45PM . The Improve My Balance Classes are a part of our comprehensive exercise and overall Fall Prevention programming. Cost for the classes are 10 sessions for $40 for Members and $60 for non-members.  After 10 sessions, two are free. Drop-ins are welcome: $4.00 for Members and $6.00 for Non-members..  Be prepared to have fun, be challenged and Improve Your Balance. Tai Chi for Health
Ongoing Classes at Mizell Senior Center
 
Mizell Senior Center has regular Tai Chi classes led by Tai Chi Master, Tai Chi Movement Neal Arida, who teaches the Yang Family Long For 108 along with Qigong Organ Exercises. You can learn and practice these ancient Chinese arts of health restoration and self defense, by combining breath control with rhythmic, slow-moving choreographed body movements. We offer two levels of classes:  Beginning Tai Chi on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00PM.  This class begins with learning standing postures, breath control and body movement. Exercises will be tailored to your abilities and limitations.  Intermediate/Advanced Tai Chi offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00PM moves to the next level where you learn to enhance vitality, improve overall health,reverse aging, clear your mind and lift your spirits through Qigong.  Health benefits of Tai Chi include improved balance, improved circulation, the lowering of blood pressure, increased flexibility, better balance and enhanced breathing. Classes are $35/month for members and $65/month for non-members. Drop-in rates are $10.00 for members and $15.00 for non-members. Pride Open House:  Join Mizell Business Partner Stonewall Gardens as they commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots at the Stonewall Gardens Pride Open House on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00PM. The event is open to the public and will feature as Keynote Speaker, Lisa Middleton.  Lisa Middleton is the Palm Springs Planning Commissioner and a significant voice in the community about transgender rights, will discuss her history, how it that relates to her own transgender experiences, why the current transgender rights issue is important to the LGBT community as a whole, and how the community is stronger together.  Stonewall Gardens is located at 2150 N. We have a lot in store for you in new classes and activities that will keep you out of the house and COOL in our air conditioned building.   We have a calendar of upcoming courses and classes that can help you live life to the fullest, meet new friends and do those things you "have always wanted to do." With the warmer months now upon us, you can keep active and involved at Mizell and take a computer class, get the latest medical updates, take in a film in our Documentary Film Series or enjoy our music program.  You can learn Yoga, take a computer class, or even learn Tai Chi. C heck out our calendar and you are sure to find something that interests you.You can also participate in one of our 22 weekly exercise classes, or enjoy playing Bingo on Monday. Our classes, delicious lunches, and exercise programs are a great way to learn new things, stay active and have fun. When you finish your class or activity at Mizell, you can shop at Aunt Betty's and find a good bargain. Take advantage of our member discounts whenever you sign up for one of our classes - it is a big discount and adds value to your membership. Ginny FoatWelcome to Summer in the desert!  We have started off with a heat wave and encourage you to come by Mizell and stay COOL in our air conditioned building while you save on your air conditioning costs.  If you are doing Summer Cleaning and looking to clean your closet or garage, be sure to bring your donations to Aunt Betty's Attic.  It is an easy way to support our Meals on Wheels Program and another way to help out Mizell. We can keep you busy at Mizell with our always changing calendar of classes and activities.  You can keep active in our ongoing Improve My Balance Classes, enjoy our Laughter Clinic, or learn new computer skills.  At Mizell, you can listen to some music, take in a documentary movie or take a Yoga class. Check out our new offerings in the Behrend Computer Learning Center or attend the Widows or Widowers social club on Monday.  If you enjoy film, we have a weekly film series complete with popcorn.  Be sure to look out for some informative upcoming medical seminars from Desert Regional Medical Center and Eisenhower Medical Center.
