UMW Reminds Members To
Send in Your Annual Pledge
The Mt. Zion's United Methodist Board would like to remind members to send in their annual pledges (any amount you choose to give), that support U.S. and international projects and partners. The net result of UMW's efforts around the world is improving the lives of women, children and youth with prayers, volunteer and advocacy efforts, and financial gifts.
Members commit through their financial giving to support the transformation of lives around the world.
Any woman who commits herself to the PURPOSE of United Methodist Women and to engage in mission, study, personal growth and social action can join UMW. You don’t have to be United Methodist or meet an age requirement. You don't have to be active in a circle or UMW leadership.
It’s easy to become a member of United Methodist Women: you can talk to someone you know who is already a member, or you can email Mt. Zion's membership chairperson, Lynn Capland for more information.Email: dlcapland@gmail.com
Your pledge checks can be sent to UMW Treasurer, Lynn Hemby, 2856 Interlaken Dr., Marietta, GA 30062. Your circle leader will be informed of your pledge, if you include your circle name/names.

Food Insecurity in Georgia
Reaches New Record High
Food donations have already come pouring in for Outreach Cluster's September Urgent Need Food Drive. Hundreds of thousands of Georgians are facing food insecurity because of the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 is leaving more than a half-million more Georgians in a state of food insecurity. That's according to a recent supplemental report from the hunger-relief organization, “Feeding America.”
Mt. Zion's Outreach Cluster is doing something about it.
Please join the Outreach Cluster as they devote the entire month of September to providing families in need with food assistance. Mt. Zion is partnering with three local Marietta organizations, Storehouse Ministries, Community Assistance Center in Sandy Springs and There's Hope for the Hungry Ministry at St. Peter & Paul's Episcopal Church in East Cobb, to help fill their food pantries.

Covered collection bins will be located in the drive-through circle by the main lobby doors, September 1-30. Below is a list of the most requested food items and toiletries. (Please note that standard size containers are best, as over-sized or family size containers can be difficult to pack and carry for many who use public transportation.)

Friday Morning Women's Group
Starts New Study, September 18
The new Friday Morning Women's Bible Study, The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ, starts September 18th at 10:00 am via Zoom.
Click Here for a video about the 12-week Part 1 study.
Jesus is more than a baby in a manger or a man on a cross. The Gospel writers tell the story of the One who left the glories of heaven to take on flesh, live as a servant, and die as the sacrifice. And The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ brings all the pieces together.
Highlights
  • A chronological study through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John on the life of Christ, journeying from His eternal preexistence to His future return.
  • A different attribute of Jesus for each lesson – Good Shepherd, Light of the World, King of Kings, Suffering Servant, and more – helps focus each week’s study.
  • This 24 week study leads you through in-depth study and daily personal application questions, bringing familiar stories to life and deepening your understanding of Jesus’ life and purpose on earth.
Please contact Tracy Wheelis, group facilitator, to sign up for access to the Zoom meeting and for instructions on how to order a book . Email tracy@wheelisfamily.com.
Girl Scout Troop 11431
Serves God and Country
Girl Scout troop 11431’s has just completed their most recent service project at the Mt. Zion Scout Lodge. They did an outdoor cleanup before the pandemic started, and created a new sign for the Scout Lodge. Shown here is a picture from Saturday, August 29, when they assembled and hung the signs. These girls are among the many scouts that meet at our Mt. Zion Scout Lodge, when it is not closed for a pandemic. The Scout Lodge is located East of the church parking lot. Remember to go take a look at the new sign when we reopen.

2020 Directory Photos
All Appointments Canceled
Lifetouch president, Greg Hintz, has made the difficult decision to suspend work on all active photo directory projects, until further notice. This means that any of you who scheduled photo sessions during the last week of October, can clear your calendar and wait for a notice to reschedule.
Photos that were taken in August will be processed and mailed to those who sat for them.
Please email communications@mtzionumc.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank You and Save the Date
The Red Cross expressed thanks for the great turn out for our recent blood drive on August 5. Each donor and volunteer helped to reduce the critical shortage of life-saving blood.
So....Mt. Zion has arranged for the Red Cross team to return again. Make an appointment to save a live on Saturday, October 17, 10 am to 3 pm.

Mt. Zion Worship Team Adds
Service-by-Phone Feature
Not able to worship via TV or computer video? Mt. Zion has heard from a few members who aren't connected via computer or smart TV and we wanted to searched for a way to get the Sunday worship service to them.
Thus, we have subscribed to a service called Worship Service-by-Phone. We have a dedicated phone number that our members can call and hear the whole worship service. Call any time of day or night. Each new weekly service will be uploaded by 8:30 am on Sunday and will replace the content from the previous week.
