March 4, 2019
From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal

Dear Parents,
Well, March has come in like a lion! Please continue to send hats, mittens, and boots with your children. Remember that we go outside unless the wind chill or temperature is below zero. Some students (especially our older students) are often not wearing hats or gloves! We want to keep everyone safe.

KISS (Kids Invite Someone Special) forms went out on Wednesday of last week. Please be sure to send those back by Tuesday so we can get an accurate brunch count. We would love to serve tasty, homemade desserts. If you are able to help us out with a donation of 2 dozen treats, it would be greatly appreciated! Please let us know on your returned form.

Lent begins with Mass on Wednesday, March 6th at 8:00am. Students and staff, please wear Mission Shirts. Parents, please join us if you are able. Even though many of our young people are not "of age" to follow the non-meat rules, we do not offer meat choice in our lunch program on the Fridays in Lent.

Part of Lenten traditions is sacrifice. Here at SAL we will have a few opportunities for this. We will be beginning our traditional "Tuna Tuesday" collection during Lent. For those of you new to SAL, we collect cans of tuna to donate to a local food pantry. Our cans of tuna will be displayed in the front entrance by our prayer wall. Help our collection to grow!  The second opportunity will be "Coins for a Cure" . Please see the information about this collection provided below. Finally, the Labyrinth will be set up in Fellowship Hall from March 8 - March 13. This is a beautiful form of prayer in which our students will participate. Feel free to come at any time and pray the Labyrinth.
Lenten Blessings!
Mrs. Knippel

A Conversation about Sex Trafficking in OUR Communities
Tuesday, March 19 | 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Human trafficking IS modern day slavery and its happening right here in OUR Communities.
Human Sex Trafficking is big business for organized crime and for local pimps. Its one of those crimes that is hidden in plain sight - meaning, most of the victims go to school, church and live in stable homes. It`s hard to see they are even a victim. Research shows that the average age of recruitment into the commercial sex industry is 12-14 years old and that victims come from every race, ethnicity and socioeconomic background.
Come learn how youth and adults are being coerced into slavery, why they can't see their way out, and how we can keep our families safe.
Keynote Speaker: Theresa Flores  - Best-selling author of "The Slave Across the Street," survivor of sex trafficking and nationally known advocate. Flores shares how she was enslaved at the age of 15 while living with unsuspecting parents in an upper middle-class suburb.
Local Perspective:
Brad Schimel Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge,
former Wisconsin Attorney General
Paul Farrow: Waukesha County Executive

Pius XI High School
Grades 4-8
Boys 9-noon, Girls 1-4 pm
Information & register at
Coach Dan Carey first started running basketball camps as a fresh out of high school 18-year-old with a passion for basketball. It all began at his grade school alma mater, Christ King School in Wauwatosa, WI.
The vision was to have a camp where kids would have FUN while learning the fundamental skills of the game in a high-energy, supportive environment with outstanding coaching and mentoring.
Over 20 years later, the vision remains the same - Shooting Stars Basketball Camps are for kids of all ability and experience levels, who simply love to play the game and want to get better in a fun environment.
Join school and parish families for Mass outdoors, a tailgate and Brewer's Game.
